I think he is wrong about the industry, and Nintendo. The gaming industry is growing in it's audience. As for Nintendo I think they will rely on portable gaming if the Wii U fails, or just start over. Even then Nintendo would be losing their touch in the west, and embracing the japanese audience like they have been doing lately with Nintendo 3DS, and Wii.
I gotta kind of agree, because Nintendo has lost their touch, like Sega did with the dreamcast, ever since the Wii, I have lost hope. Sony, and Microsoft are getting loads of support because they are advancing their visuals, and interfaces of their consoles. Nintendo is simply playing it safe, and using Mario to the max. Nintendo would be killer if they were 3rd party like Sega. They would have more time for games, and not yearly harware releases much like Sega.
I hope next generation was as good as this one. JRPG fans were the most annoying, because they didn't get as much as they want. I hope 3DS, Vita, Wii U, PS4, and Xbox 720 do well like their past counterparts before them. Glad to see iOS becoming relevant which means I can play more creative games. Hope PC, and Steam continue to always be relevant in the industry as well, which they always will.
I like smart phone idea, but please Sony don't be stupid about pricing. However I will buy one year or two from release, depending on it's titles. I have Rock* games, and some PSN games to catch up to.
