Super Street Fighter 2 (SNES). I put hours and hours into it when I was a kid. Nowadays, I can barely stomach a fighting game. :P

LOL same here. I remember playing that game for hours and hours with friends, figuring out the best ways to beat their moves and playstyles, screaming at the controller when I know a move I did didn't register :P

I personally spent more time with Street Fighter 2 than Super Street Fighter 2 though -- using mostly Ken and Guile and taking advantage Guile's cheapness (slow sonic boom + throw) of course. Man, those were the days!!! Honestly, other than the Battlefield series I don't think I ever played or enjoyed local or online multiplayer any more than that.

I don't know, a game that changed my life forever sounds just a tad dramatic but I'll mention No One Lives Forever. That was probably the [awesome] game that got me hooked on first person shooters and I haven't looked back since -- love the immersion of the viewpoint and the feeling of exploring your environment. I had played Wolfenstein 3D, Doom, etc before, but the genre just didn't "click" for me at the time. NOLF influenced me to finally get around to playing Half-Life which I loved as well.

I find the ai on teh ahrdest difficulty to be pretty awesome, the humans could be a tad better but the aliens are superb most the time.

Music is epic, gameplay is great, art design is very good, level design is good, story is not to bad and the pacing of the campaign is great :)

only thing I miss from Crysis is the more open levels

I'm enjoying Crysis 2 as well. Greatly. There just aren't many first person shooters out there that provide you with the tools to let you play and plan so tactically. Especially for someone like myself that tends to gravitate towards a slower paced stealth and observe, hit and run style approach. The game is truly a treat to play, and I haven't experienced those similar thrills since Crysis/Crysis Warhead.

Compared to Crysis, it's a most definitely a win some - lose some proposition in design, I also miss the larger levels of Crysis for example. However, the game itself is still win overall in my opinion.

The treatment of the PC version is very unfortunate and disappointing in regards to taking advantage of what the platform offers though. Perhaps Crytek will somewhat redeem themselves going forwards, fantastic to see the community (Wasdie for example) providing help.

Thanks Wasdie for spending your time to making this app, I can barely sneak in time even to play the game as it is personally. Having an interface available is convenient and it's an attractive ui at that with the logo :)

It's mind boggling why Crytek left these options out of the game, it's almost like they were really going for as much parity across all versions as possible out of the gate, and nothing to cause initial highly coveted console sales to stumble (such as a superior much better looking and much more customizable PC version). I don't know, who knows. Craziness. At least it properly supports 16:10 aspect ratio otherwise I might be in the "console port" name-calling camp. I'm certainly enjoying the visuals much more with the ability to disable the blur though!

As mentioned, g_enableInitialLoginScreen would be a great option to have if you feel like getting around to it -- for those that just end up pressing skip at the login everytime anyway. Thanks for keeping the browse to root folder in versus searching for the exe, that's a better option in my opinion. Though, you might be able to grab the install location from registry instead, perhaps when you're at the point of just pimping the app out lol.

Yeah, very short game man, played it to the end yesterday and racked up less than 50 minutes of gameplay according to Steam! Yeah, that short.

Very short(just under two hours, and I play slow), can only use three weapons, graphics aren't terrible, the controls are meh, sprint blows and it's only 10 bucks.\

No idea how you got 2 hours out of the game lol, I thought I played games kind of slow -- in particular enjoying first person shooters that don't lead by the hand or tightly control pacing and allow wider "exploration" off the beaten-path if desired. For example games more in the style of Crysis as opposed to COD, however, Battlefield LA is much more similar in style to COD. Not that the latter style cannot provide a fun ride, the greatest compliment I can give the game is at the end I really wanted to keep playing!! Although on second thought that might have been to due to playing for less than 50 minutes.

Sprint is an exercise in futility as already mentioned, however, controls and shooting mechanics were tight, the gameplay was fun (enough) and familiar. Although the game suffered from mainstream-ification with lack of prone and lean (what's new? it's 50 minutes long, you won't notice, but....I suppose I did). I was more disappointed that it didn't properly support 16:10 widescreen aspect-ratio, i.e. black bars top and bottom of screen for 1650X1080, 1920X1200, etc.

Visuals were good enough to get the job done considering it's a $10 game, the Saber 3D engine (at least in it's TimeShift implementation) dazzled much better on PC than on consoles. Not sure if that's still the case, however, I'd say it's a mixed-bag on the PC -- loving the explosions, hating the weapon models as one example. I know there will be those that will delight in the comic-book presentation of the cut-scenes, but for me personally those were atrocious! "Yo, we have no budget left for our budget game. Kenny down the hall knows flash animation doesn't he? Let's have him put together some cut-scenes for us. Yeaahhh, that'll work. Awesome son!"

Not worth more than the $10 asking price, but not the worst you've played either.

I generally prefer retail versions for "must have" games as well, but of course don't shy away from digital distribution with the awesome sales on Steam or picking up titles from GOG.com for example.

You can pre-order from The Witcher 2 from retail right now actually, Amazon for example.

However, consider this if you weren't already aware ---games from GOG.com are completely DRM free. You buy a game and it's available for download as many times as you like from your account (similar to Steam), the difference is with GOG you download an install file. Once the install file is in your possession, you actually never need to go back to your account again for that game (of course you can if you like). You can burn that file to disc, save to thumb-drive, external hard-drive, whatever and can install and play the game without an internet connection! It's a stand-alone installer, you're free to install on whatever machines you like, how many times you like, play simultaneously, etc without the keys to your destiny being controlled by someone's server. It's under your control regardless if your internet connection is disconnected for some reason or your account has been compromised in some manner for example. The install does not need to be "unlocked", the game is completely DRM free.

Naturally this doesn't help at all if the reason you prefer retail is because you want the tangible items or waiting for a retail promotion deal, but it is an option for those that prefer to have copies of games that aren't dependent on accounts and/or servers.

Yeah, it definitely pays to wait after release date for picking up games. Even if I do pre-order games or buy near release I haven't paid $60, e.g. $39.99 Starcraft 2, $49.99 Black Ops, $49.99 Crysis 2, etc. All retail versions -- just need to pay attention to pricing/promotions at places such as Amazon and Newegg, Steam seems to be one of the absolute worst for release date pricing deals.

But, after last year's Steam holiday sales in particular I told myself I wouldn't buy many games on release any longer anyway (already had so many of the games there was hardly anything of interest to grab during sale!) -- that plan/goal is kinda working, still buying more at or near release than expected (never $60 though).

Absolutely. There's a level of interest, but I'm not in great anticipation honestly. Any game built for COOP at least has that aspect going for it, I've found otherwise mediocre games can still be fun in the COOP campaign (Serious Sam 2 remains disappointing) --- so, hopeful but apprehensive.

Serious Sam 3: BFE is a great title name though. Look-up bfe at urban dictionary, that is exactly what first came to mind! Awesome :P

Angry Birds (still with Seasons) and some other titles on the Android chew up some time also for example, but those 3 I'll consider the main platforms. The Wii at number 2 is finally getting some love and serious play time from me with games such as GoldenEye 007 -- not exactly the same of course, but one of the few games that stirs some reminiscence of No One Lives Forever, one of my favs of all time, while playing through!

Fully expect to return to spending more time with the PS3 (a number of titles looking forward to starting) than the Wii ...but having fun with the Wii recently :)
