Not interested in the multiplayer component of either series and speaking strictly about the campaign, I enjoyed Crysis considerably more!

Call of Duty 4 (MW2 as well) is a well-crafted game for what it strives to achieve, among it's peers of similar style it's easily an above average and fun game. However, the linear/scripted style of FPS experience is more typical while Crysis offers more rich, unrestricted FPS combat in comparison.

I remember this comparison video that was done shortly after the games were released http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gyQTCeobZlg

Crysis probably appeals less to the mainstream, which to a degree is unfortunate as there aren't many games that offer similar gameplay. I'd personally love to have another similar shooter, here's to hoping Crysis 2 and Far Cry 3 can provide some great emergent FPS gameplay!

Well, there's a difference between feeling entitlement and simply preferring that a developer would put their efforts towards something else. For example, I'm not poor, and would rather pay for a commercially published Crytek game rather than a free one. There are many reasons for why there is a decline in PC Gaming, and PC gamers feeling indifferent towards free games likely isn't one of them.KHAndAnime

Well said, I agree.

I'm glad people can enjoy these free-to-play games, but they are typically nothing I look forward to in comparison to a commercially available title. The same follows for asian-market oriented Warface although Crysis is one of my favorite games of all time (thus Crytek a highly respected developer).

Strike one, these games are very often multi-player only. Strike two, these are games you can't keep personally -- are only around as long as the servers say they are and must accept any fundamental changes to the game (opposed to an offline game). And even if we're talking strictly multi-player, I'd still rather pay a larger up-front cost than have a micro-transaction based system.

No complaints about the asian market getting this game, that's perfectly cool, but given a preference, I'd much rather see Crytek put out a non free-to-play PC exclusive title!

I'm surprised Singularity's price is still holding up. I really want that game but only if it's $20 or less. :PElann2008

Yeah man, what's up with that?

I've been keeping an eye out for good price drop on the retail version (since it has light-weight DRM, disc-check only) for Singularity PC, and just haven't found anything, not much less than $40 at least, it's easier to find the console versions cheaper it seems!

I'd prefer a retail version if possible, but a nice alternative would be for it to be part of an upcoming Steam sale -- less than $20 would be fantastic :)

Anyway, thanks for the heads up for the other downloads out there OP.

CD Projekt/GOG.com are awesome!!!!!

Back when disc-checks were the primary form of copy protection, I never really paid attention or had a care about DRM. However, once DRM began to take control of games away from users in the form of online authentication/activation/etc and impose limitations on use via external dependencies (i.e. servers) that are not under control of the user is when I started to seriously dislike DRM...and still do.

GOG.com's model of allowing you to download your game and install/copy/play that game wherever, whenever you like never ever having to answer to a server again from that install file is simply incredible and in my mind elevates GOG.com to the best digital distribution service available.

Never thought that model would work for newly released games, but it's refreshing to see they will try it with The Witcher 2. Under this model, as opposed to typical online-based DRM, paying customers will receive a copy of the game that is just as good (no external dependencies or strings attached) as what the pirates play.

No idea of the extent of how well this alternate strategy will work other than probably not as good as one would like, however, paying customers clearly have nothing to worry about yet there's a chance for consequences for pirates. Hopefully the overall strategy can be measured as a success in whatever metrics are used to determine such! Good luck CD Projekt and GOG.com!

problem is in Crysis there's way too much freedom - I mean huge map with choose whatever tactic you like and kill your opponents PredatorRules

Way too much freedom in Crysis??? That's precisely what separates Crysis from so many other first person shooters on the market, and what makes it an incredibly fun game. The later (linear) levels in the game where the pacing was more tightly controlled to set the tone and story development is where the brilliant gameplay suffered a little.

At any rate, I can absolutely appreciate that people have different preferences, but I just had to LOL cause we're like diametric opposites in our preferences :D Though I can enjoy heavily-scripted games as well, games like Crysis take the gameplay in a first person shooter to another level in comparison.

I wonder what happened to their realistic military shooter.

Baranga

Apparently, it has most likely been canceled. Croteam was working with publisher Gamecock on the game, however, when SouthPeak purchased Gamecock, many of their projects were dropped.

I dunno, I loved Serious Sam First and Second Encounters while Serious Sam 2 was a disappointment. Steam had free weekend of one of the HD Serious Sam remakes and for me personally, it just didn't have the same magic or appeal as the originals in their time. I'm hoping Croteam elevates their game beyond old-school shooting with Serious Sam 3 with some unique/interesting elements -- along the lines of (or surpassing) glimpses of what we're seeing with DNF!

It's really interesting hearing you guys talk favorably of the visuals and that there "isn't much" modders could improve...

I bought CoP much earlier in the year, been excited to get started on it and recently finally have! When I fired it up, I was actually very surprised how poor the visuals seemed.

Probably due to the unintentional comparison of graphics to other games played recently, or there's some glass-eyed memory/nostalgia because the STALKER series (especially SoC) is awesome, or maybe it's actually my machine with this particular game.

At any rate, went in search of some mods to see if there were some improvements I could add. Something I never do, almost always play vanilla and then add mods later for "messing around" or whatever. Added absolute nature and structures texture packs & high quality maps mod and while the visuals that I'm playing with still wouldn't win any awards, they are alright.

Enjoying the game immensely regardless though, I would still play it now OP! ;)

Damn Starcraft 2 for 39.99USD is a great deal, i feel bad paying 59.99 Euro's for it then :(serialkisser

Dunno if anyone else picked it for that price or less, but I got it from Kmart.com (Sears). They had it on sale for a week and actually had some trouble apparently with the price adjustment at first, in particular at their brick&mortar stores. By the time I placed my order online things were straightened out though. http://blogs.mykmart.com/2010/09/terran-sized-discount.html

Amazon's had it at $49.99 so that's not too bad either.
