The "look" is cool, the name is cool, it'd be cool to have an excellent FPS/RTS hybrid game, better then Raven Squad hopefully!

But there's no campaign, it appears to be completely multiplayer. Thus --- since the name is not Battlefield 3 (not much time for MP these days) --- I'll very likely be skipping this game :)

Hopefully some good MP for those interested though...

Is Star Trek online any good. I see it got mediocre reviewsgmaster456

FYI, Star Trek Online Collector's Edition has been $9.99 on Amazon for a while now. Note this is likely a prime reflection on the quality of the game though! :P Throw in a blu-ray, another game, or something for free shipping on orders over $25, not bad for an edition that was $80 on release. I picked up a copy, absolutely no idea when I'll actually get around to playing it though.

Some of the bigger name titles purchased for this year, PC only. Leaving out "less significant" or cheaper purchases on Steam, GOG.com, and titles such as Minecraft -

  • Just Cause 2 (Steam)
  • DiRT 2 (Steam)
  • Metro 2033 (Steam)
  • Left 4 Dead 2 (Steam)
  • BioShock 2 (Steam)
  • Mafia 2 (Online Retail)
  • Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 (Online Retail)
  • Fallout New Vegas (Online Retail)
  • Call of Duty Black Ops (Online Retail)
  • Stalker Call of Pripyat (Online Retail)
  • Medal of Honor (Online Retail)
  • NBA 2K11 (Online Retail)
  • Dead Rising 2 (Online Retail)
  • Kane & Lynch 2 (Online Retail)
  • Starcraft 2 (Online Retail)
  • James Bond 007: Blood Stone (Online Retail)
  • The Saboteur (Online Retail)
  • Arma 2 Operation Arrowhead (Online Retail)
  • Battlefield: Bad Company 2 (Online Retail)
  • Mass Effect 2 (Online Retail)
  • Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell Conviction (Online Retail)

Nearly all purchases were at discounted prices, for example, $39.99 for Starcraft 2, $29.96 for Modern Warfare 2, $9.90 for Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell Conviction, etc.

Honestly, I'm skeptical on how well it matches, but since you haven't received any other suggestions the first game that came to mind reading your description was James Pond 007: Blood Worm, er...I mean James Pond 2: Codename Robocod.

Here's hoping the "single player" if included is much better than Bad Company 2. The name "Assault" has me worried that it's going to be a game of extreme chokepointsnutcrackr

The way I'm reading the article is that the game is not going to be named Battlefield Assault, that is just a domain that EA recently picked up.

Considering Ben Cousin's position with EA as general manager of EA's Easy studio (studio behind Battlefield Heroes and www.play4free.com), it's very possible this is going to microtransaction based free-to-play game.

Not likely something I'll personally be interested in (just get on with Battlefield 3 EA! :)) and it probably won't have a decent single player campaign (more likely none), but who knows maybe they'll surprise us when the news goes public on Friday.

Yeah, maybe since they are all at the same price they receive the same incentive. I remember Mafia II had a $10 credit for the PC version (for a $39.99 "effective" price), I don't think the console versions were at that same price though.

Amazon is also running a buy 3 games for the price of 2 (PC/consoles/DS) special right now if you weren't aware, might be some decent titles in there. Definitely if you have the interest, consider Black Ops for the PC -- return of dedi-servers -- you should be able to meet and greet some good people to game with.

Awesome you found that dude. Amazon has been offering incentives and discounts on PC games for quite a while though, it's not incredibly new. They also offered $20 credit for MW2 last year, for example http://www.fatwallet.com/forums/expired-deals/960885/

Amazon, Newegg, and GoGamer are great places to look for good deals on PC games via online retail. My experience has been that with incentives/discounts and even very often with their standard prices, these guys tend to be cheaper than picking up games on Steam, particularly new releases. Where Steam factors in heavily with great prices is during it's Steam sales, such as over the holidays.

I have Black Ops current pre-ordered with Newegg for $49.99, straight up price -- not a credit (unsure if it's still at that price). I'm considering switching it to Amazon but haven't yet pulled the trigger.

[QUOTE="Sharpie125"]

260k? If that's the worst case of piracy, beers are on me. I hate to say it, but removing LAN and Battlenet 2.0 might have been a step in the right direction. I'm sure there's a way to circumvent it, but this undoubtedly put a dent in the number of folks who pirate then play via VPN.

Im_single

If SC2 had LAN pirating would be in the millions I'm certain.

If we're to believe the numbers, we should also congratulate EA for keeping Mass Effect 2 piracy numbers even less than SC2's 260k so far with optional disc-check only DRM on the base game. Versus what, supposedly 2+ million for a title such as EA's own Need For Speed: Shift last year?

Mass Effect 2 is a great title from a publisher that's playing very fair with PC gamers these days in regards to DRM, I'd be more than happy to congratulate them!

But this is why I wasn't quick to give credit to something Blizzard has implemented for keeping the numbers low, it seems something much more encompassing industry-wide has taken place. Unless we don't believe the all the details of the numbers, which of course none are exact measurements...or pirates had absolutely no interest (relatively) in any titles not named Starcraft 2.

I'll play devils advocate here: It might be low by comparison but the fact that they've chosen to pirate that particular game still says a lot, considering its apparent quality etc. The year isn't over yet. I'd wait to see what the figures are for Black Ops as well. biggest_loser

What's the connection you are drawing here BL, that quality (SC2 considered a higher quality game) is irrelevant to piracy? It seems popularity matters more than quality. Although that doesn't always seem to be consistent either, but the tracking isn't exact so who knows.

The most amazing thing is how low the [largest] number is so far for this year compared to figures thrown around in previous years. I mean, that's fantastic news for PC gaming if true, but it's hard to imagine. The low figure doesn't have anything to do with something Blizzard implemented with SC2 either, because in prior years titles further down the "top" list were downloaded significantly more times than this as well.
