Hello all,

Just wondering whether anyone else is having the same problem I am with Assassins Creed DX10 mode. When I start the game in DX10 it opens in window mode, I couldn't see any options to set it to full screen though. I couldn't see anything in the documentation on this issue either. DX9 mode works fine, so it's not a big problem but I wouldn't mind playing in DX10 full screen as window mode is just annoying.

I guess some info on my computer would help:

AMD X2 6000+
4Gb RAM
Asus AM2 nForce 590 SLI
2x eVGA Geforce 8800 GTX SLI
Windows Vista 32bit

I updated my graphics drivers about 4 days ago so unless they've been changed since then I have the latest Nvidia drivers for my Graphics and Motherboard. And Windows Updates are up to date as well.

Have fun

My experience with wireless mice or keyboards has been dire to the say the least. A lot of wirelss mice go into sleep while their not being used so you have to wiggle it a little to wake it up. Wireless keyboards have been better but I've still used some that require a couple of key presses when it hasn't been used for some time to wake up.

Not to mention the battery issues. Wired mouse and keyboard are the best option for quick response and avoiding the headache of battery manaegement.

I have to say, I'm always confused when I speak to my friends, they happily sit at desk with small monitor and crappy chair. Why they don't adopt a similar setup to me, I can't understand, especially when they've all seen my setup and said they love it.

My projector cost £750, which isn't much different to a decent 1280 HD TV and it's native res is 1280x720, so it is HD as well, and I get a 7 foot screen from it. It also accepts HDMI. I use a Sony AW15.

For those out there that use uber high res wide screen monitors and think 1280 is crap, try playing with a 7 foot screen, you will soon change your mind. I've even had a guy that had a 60 inch 1080 TV look at my setup and wish he'd done the same.

If you have the space, as in, you can comfortably sit at least 6 foot from a wall, projectors are the way forward. I could NEVER go back to a normal monitor now, I've spoiled myself.

I think that people are getting hooked on the whole "Pirates are thieving scum bags" thing, I know people that pirate software for 2 reasons.

1, Pirated versions are available first.

2, Pirated versions are easier to get a hold of.

The people that I know that pirate, will actually buy the game if it's any good but sometimes they don't because game is crap. The fact remains though that some people do pirate just because it's easier.

Personally, I think that if companies embraced digital distribution to the point where they were making their games available for download when the game goes Gold, there would be a reduction in piracy. Then the people that really want the game on disc, can wait a week or so, but those that are impatient can download now and play.

Don't get me wrong, there will always be people that are too cheap to buy and will pirate anyway, but I think it would reduce it.

Well I game in a small arm chair about 8 feet from my wall, where my projector shines a 7 foot screen. I use the Cyber-Sniper gaming pad which is about 4 inch wide, which gives me plenty of room for use of a mouse on a wooden board I place on my knee. It's not very high tech, but it works well for most games that require mouse and keyboard, as the Cyber-Sniper has plenty of buttons on it.

Check out the Cyber Sniper here.

The only issue is when you need to type something, which I have a keyboard proped up against my chair at the side so I can just lean over and grab it, put it on my lap and type away.

Works great for me, and it's far more relaxing to be able to game away from a computer desk and office chair. Plus I can happily do everything through my PC, no need for a DVD player or Digital box. I also have a Hauppauge WinTV Nova which allows you to plug a digital TV aerial into your PC and watch TV, works with Windows Media Center too.

So yes, it's great playing without a computer desk.

I seem to remeber an FAQ ages ago before the console versions were released where they said they wouldn't do a demo for any platform as the demo would have to be at least half a city to give a good indication of what the game was like. And they weren't confortable with a demo so big.

I kinda see their point to be honest.

The new content is nice but since I haven't played a console version I probably won't even notice, I didn't with Gears of War. What was most interesting for me in that article is the changes to the AI. I've heard from friends and read on forums that the AI on the console versions is very dumb. All you need to do to get away with killing random people is use the blend button all the time and no one cares, but it sounds like they've addressed this in the PC version.

I'm starting to look forward to this again now, I'd given up waiting for it because they were taking their time and giving no indication on why it was being delayed. But now I can see they haven't just been giving each other piggy back rides all day, which is good.

I may even preorder, not decided yet though.

Clearly, Spore isn't for me then. Building your own story and objectives and evolving that to RTS kinda game play isn't for me. I'll just contine not understanding what's interesting with this game and let others enjoy it. I just wanted to try to understand what was so interesting with this thing, guess I never will. Same with The Sims I guess.

I think you should try - we all should give it a go first - before a judgement can be made - who knows: maybe you are right and it is one of the most over hyped piles of cow dung. Lets just wait and see! Remember that is all just personal preference: I don't like GTA: San Andreas for example, but thats just me.

I agree on San Andreas, It was OK for a muck about but it got stale very quick. I've found that with all open ended games I've played I just get bored, with no driving force or direction I end up wandering around and wondering what I'm supposed to be doing and end up just quiting and playing something else.

Bah! I'll give it shot, I might be suprised! But I seem to think I'll end up getting bored quick and playing something else. I seem to have larger attention spans for multiplayer games than single player these days. I used to be all about the single player but things change.

The reason for the extreem difference is because the game engines utilise different effects, some games use higher detail shaders than others. Crysis for example uses fairly high detail shaders and then there are TONS of polys to draw for each peice of foliage.

It's mostly due to the sheer amount of things being drawn. COD4 doesn't have as much foliage as Crysis (I know there are areas of COD4 where there are a lot of trees and such but you'll notice that it isn't as much or as detailed, still does the job thought).

For instance, in COD4, there is a lot of the game that is in urban areas with little foliage, mostly brick walls and dust. Whereas in Crysis the whole game takes place surrounded in foliage. Well there is far more work to be done to draw trees than a brick wall. Since at the very least you need two textures to draw a single part of foliage, a Diffuse map and a Transparicy map, thats just for one small part of a tree. I believe Crysis uses far more than just two elements though, I might be wrong but I think there is also a Specular map and a Pixel Shader to calcualte the right highlights on the leaves.

So, there is more work to be done drawing ONE tree than a brick wall, which is what COD4 is mostly made of. Is it any wonder that COD4 runs better than Crysis? No, it really isn't.
