Clearly, Spore isn't for me then. Building your own story and objectives and evolving that to RTS kinda game play isn't for me. I'll just contine not understanding what's interesting with this game and let others enjoy it. I just wanted to try to understand what was so interesting with this thing, guess I never will. Same with The Sims I guess.

Well, I'm still trying to work out why Tripple Buff is even an option since if your frame rates drop you will get slugish reactions. This is very noticeable in any graphically chalanging game, very painful in Lost Planet as I remmeber (tech staff were constantly telling people to turn it off). Tripple Buff is fine when you have very stable high FPS but if your graphics card might drop frames a little it will hurt.

I'm also seeing a few mentions of Civ, is the feeling that Civ fans will like this because I hated Civ with a passion? Maybe this just isn't the game for me I guess.

I hope others like it, but I seriously doubt I will by the sounds of things. I'll just sit in the corner and grumble about games being not as fun as they were in my day.

Thank god, I posted this question in the Spore forum on this site and just got a bunch people posting derogatory comments at me. At least here I get some inteligent feed back :)

From your posts I feel a little better about Spore, I was aware of the whole gaining technology but didn't really understand how this would be different than upgrading your creatures, with another arm for example.

I'm still not convinced though, I'll wait until I've read alot of reviews and maybe even played it before deciding on getting it. I don't mind slow games, (I'm currently playing WoW ffs) but I like a story line and a feeling of purpose beyond personal progression. Maybe I'm just a mental or something but never mind.

I'm beginning to feel like the only person alive that thinks Spore is pointless dribble to be honest.

Have fun n stuff

From what I've seen and read of Spore, it just sounds to me like an RPG with NOTHING but grind. There are no quests or objectives that I've seen. There is no story line. You just create someting, run it into the world and kill things until it levels up and you can make upgrades to your creature.....

How is that a game? I hope I'm missing something, I really do! I'm sorry but creating something and throwing it at enemies for a few hours for no reason other than to kill them isn't much fun to me.

I'm not much of a fan of single player RPGs anyway but Spore sounds to me like a single player RPG where the only thing to do is kill things weaker than you.....

Please tell me there is more to Spore!!

Have fun

V-Sync can be a double edged sword sometimes, depends on the game actually. While it will eliminate the tearing effect it can also cause slight stuttering in frame rates. To reduce this slight stutter, you need to raise the refresh frequency of the monitor.

If using V-Sync, I'd say that a monitor refresh of 80+ is best.

Oh and yes, it does reduce the frame rates but if you imagine that if your refresh rate is 60Hz, this means your screen is refreshing at roughly 60 times a second. But if your FPS is 80, this means there are 20 frames every second that are either only partially drawn on the screen or aren't drawn at all.

I play all my games with V-Sync, it hardly seems worth not using it to be honest.

When it was first announced I was very excited to play it. Then they didn't say anything for about 18 months, I lost interest and I'm finding it hard to find it again now that it's been dated. I will probably wait until I've read a few reviews before thinking about getting it, or not as the case may be.

I really hate it when developers announce a game 2 years before it's release, you get all excited about it and then by the time it finally comes out, you've forgotten what it is and why it should be interesting. Same happened to Doom3 and will happen to Rage as well I'd wager.

Feel good...mmmm....I'd say Portal.

Some students made a simple game call Narbacular Drop at uni and was able to show it off at the DigiPen expo they hold every year to show developers. Valve spotted their work and asked for a demonstration of their stuff at the Valve HQ and was hired on the spot. They then made Portal to be released with the Orange Box which has recieved tons of awards.

Feel good story, yeah I'd say a bunch of students going from working at McDonalds or similar to working at Valve in one jump could qualify?

What do Epic expect, of course GoW sold way better on Xbox 360, it was released there first. Did they really expect it to sell as well on PC when 95% of people that wanted to play it, bought it for Xbox? Who in their right mind would buy a game twice? 40 minutes extra game play is NOT enough to make people buy it again, unless they're a mental or something.

And then with UT3, they stripped out the best modes and didn't give any decent reasons for this and then released it at the worst time possible time where tons of other games came out together. And now that people can afford to buy it, they're not because they know it sucks.

Having Epic focus on Consoles is a good thing, because if they're dumb enough to think that PC gamers will lap up a dodgy year old port and a watered down and butchered generic deathmatch then I'd rather they throw that crap at consoles and leave the good PC developers to make some good games.

I live in the UK and when I buy games off Steam I pay in Dollars with my bank card and the bank deals with the exchange rate stuff.

It's actually quite painless.
