My wife and I have always had fun with these games, and they are a great kid-friendly series for when we have our niece over (and she gets tired of shooting people in the face in Splatoon). Not every game needs to be dark, brown and gritty, so I appreciate the cheery games from time to time.
@adayinverse: I'll give ya this, you definitely do your research, which is refreshing when many (myself, too, at times) don't do so and find a foot in their mouth. These types of stories make me irritable, and it's easy to get off track and off topic. Fair points! I appreciate that your arguments are specific to the subject matter. You obviously have a passion for the game, and hey, I hope regardless of how this stuff turns out, you keep having fun with it. I played a Dragoon through to the beginning of Stormblood, enjoying it quite a bit, before life got in the way, and I'd consider making time for it again down the road...whether or not as a Male Viera Dancer, ha, we'll see.
@adayinverse: "We did expect strong feedback on the gender lock. It was a tough decision, but we decided to do our best to meet both the player feedback and our development team's vision." - Yoshida's words.
I'm not arguing your point, because it's a good one, I'm just saying that it's a broader scope than that, that your quotes are perhaps a little narrowed to support your point, and feelings were most definitely considered. I'm not usually for the SJW/anti-SJW nonsense either, but this whole thing is being turned into a mountain when it really is just a mole hill.
Would love to see the ring causing a twisting of his perspective and that the game leans into it, twisting our perception of right/wrong and the story we were told to begin with. Make me believe that the Hobbitses are indeed filthy!
@ChldsPlay: It's not one or the other, it's happening at the same time. To prevent sore feelings of missing out because of a female only race, or to create an environment without sore feelings at all, the developers made a male only race. NOW is the time when the developers are responding to the sore feelings they tried to prevent, even if the sore feelings are from a slightly different cause.
Edit: The irony is that in this case, those people who are against SJW antics are, themselves, looking and asking for Social Justice...
Seeing ANY comparison to Tenchu is icing on the cake, since I'm already a major fan of the SoulsBorne games and formula and have thoroughly missed Tenchu in gaming (I loved the hell out of that stealthy gem of a series). Just picked this up and am excited to dive in!
I'm pretty stoked about SteamWorld Quest. I've enjoyed the hell out of the other SteamWorld games, far more than I thought I would have. Heist was such a surprising gem that just about any SteamWorld game gets a near instant buy from me, and Quest seems to play perfectly into my love of card/deck games and fantasy adventure.
@StonerDemon: Fair opinion, but yeah, Dragon's Crown might not be the best example. While a great game, it was a liiiiittle overkill on the proportions and angles. Played co-op with three other guys and all of us thought "Okaaaay, that's a bit much, isn't it?" at times. To be fair, this goes both ways, for the men and the women in the game. Like I said, still a great game though!
