@Vodoo: Gotcha, thanks for the insight. Hearing Origins is Odyssey minus as much of the busy work is a huge sell for me, thanks!

@barcaazul: I'd like to check out Origins. I hit some serious AC fatigue after Black Flag (though I had a great time with it) and took a break from the series until Odyssey, as Greek history/culture/mythology has always been an interest, and pulled me back in. Been really enjoying it, a ton of fun! That being said, it is incredibly enormous and daunting at times, especially when there are a ton of other enormous games out. The pacing is great though, meaning you can get a ton done in short bursts of play. Rambling aside, I really should check out Origins, I didn't know it was a prequel going into Odyssey.

@sippio: Fair to have an opinion, I won't argue on that. When I went through my own computer science program some years ago, I only had 2 women in the entire program. That being said, they were kind, smart, held their own and moved on to great success, along with many of the men. I, myself, am a 37 year old life long gamer who grew up coding on my dad's old Commodore 64. I share all of this as context for saying that "Cancer generation" is a generous helping of the kind of hyperbole that can ruin your own point, however well-intended. I don't see eye to eye with all young people, but neither did my parents' generation with me, and in any case, the youth are not a generation of killer disease.

It's hard to get excited about this stuff, as the whole FFXV experience was marred by other-media storytelling that left me scratching my head and pulled me out of the experience. I was REALLY enjoying FFXV at points, and then out of nowhere, devastatingly critical plotpoints would happen outside the scope of the game, and I would have to take a step back, thinking, "Wait...so and so is dead now? When did they rally to take down THAT entity? Why are these characters over there? Who is THAT person? Why don't any of my main characters give any evidence that I could have known any of this? Oh, I needed to watch the movie..." In a series known to have lengthy storytelling, I don't see why those stories, which were clearly already developed and finished, couldn't have been integrated into the game. I mean, it's not quite Destiny 1 Grimoires level of bad, but compared to past entries in the series, I was frustrated by the design choice.

@ricardo_tuba: Been looking to revisit this game, I'm glad to hear it's been keeping up nicely! Only really put it down due to time restraints to begin with, but life changes and now I'm looking to crush some mobs again!

@jsprunk: Also of note, it's using the same licenses as the films, meaning the show will take place in the same setting with the same tonal, visual styles of the movies, rather than an original, unrelated take on the stories. I'm cautiously optimistic, thinking it could flesh out the stories rather than try to retell it. Like @ohrenclez mentioned, there is a ton of great content that can be pulled from the Silmarillion and other stories.

@ChldsPlay: Very fair point, I definitely jumped to a conclusion or two (which is points against the show, if I have to do so). I guess I made that leap about marriage/step-mom stuff, but yeah, from an angle where the show wasn't entirely about their birth mother, and where I knew the "ending sucked", the story flows well enough (upon my viewing, anyway). Doesn't change the whole marriage/divorce with Barney thing that felt forced and rushed. As for Ted and Robin, it all made sense, and I enjoyed it.

@RSM-HQ: Loved Tropical Freeze! That soundtrack is worth the price of admission alone.

I watched How I Met Your Mother a few years after it wrapped, and had heard tales of the terrible ending, so I went in cautiously, and funny enough, I actually enjoyed it. Having binge watched it, when told quickly, the story is definitely a tale of Ted meeting and ending up with Robin, who is now their mother, and it feels like less of a cop out to me. I can agree that there were forced moments of character and pacing, but like I said, with caution on my side, I really liked how it turned out. That being said, if I had followed it for 9 years, week to week, I can see how the ending could have angered some folk.

I really enjoy Splatoon, but I always forget how shock-inducingly popular it is in Japan. Great lil' shooter though.
