@thom_maytees It can be influenced by the hype surrounding the season. This one seems rather bloated with Peyton's return, Andrew Luck's arrival, and the Jets QB sideshow.
The fever seems to always win. I know a lot of people that buy this game each year, and hate themselves for it. They just don't like the idea of being left out of the football season in any way.
@WolfGrey That depends on what you mean. When it comes to mmorpgs, the F2P market is very heavily leaned towards P2W. Practically every korean F2P mmorpg is like that, and there's so many of them. Granted, most of them do still allow you to earn the benefits of payers through hard work to earn the money to buy them, but even those will often times still require that someone buys the stuff in order to supply it.
As for F2P as a whole, yes, then it's probably a low percentage that's P2W, as most genres outside of the mmorpg don't offer much opportunity for that model.
@swinehouse This is true for a different reason. The beta process for FFXIV showed that SE not only doesn't listen to its fanbase, they also have no respect for it. Half a year of "feedback" through several closed and open beta phases just to change nothing. An official forum where the devs can say "That's interesting" to any ideas from the people who graciously forgave them for their colossal ^&%* up and do nothing. It really is amazing that SE can be that cruel to the people that are so dedicated to them. Rather than be grateful, they have been abusive. 2.0 will have to be the be-all end-all mmo to make up for the past two years. Those who stuck it out with them through all of their crap deserve nothing less.
I gave FFXIV almost 2 years, but it finally bit the bullet for me. The new changes look really good, and they do interest me as someone that wants it to succeed. Personally, however, I don't think this game has any sort of chance as long as its shackled to the retarded armory system. It has created one of the most limited class systems I've ever seen in an mmo. And that damning combo system has only made those limitations even worse. I really hope the 2.0 plans include getting rid of both of them.
Sadly, the success of the CoD/Madden model of yearly releases has consumed a large share of the consumer dollars. Devs and publishers are finding it hard to survive on fine dining alone these days. As consumers we hate it, because its more of the same each year. As a company, they need that bread and butter.
