ok im not talking about photorealistic quality graphics like in jurassic park and star wars. final fantasy wasnt photorealistic, it had a computer graphics feel and artsy type of art style to it, unlike the photorealistic stuff like in the matrix. movies back in the early 50's and 30's used stop animation and clay figures for movies like king kong and godzilla...and thats what final fantasy can be compared to, but do you think it can be the new stop animation and clay movies for the new millenium as well as games? Not really. However it must be stressed that much of the illusion is movement and working out the curvature of the geometry through shaders or having a higher vertex through-put. The other problem is that movie graphics have become alot better too. CGI from the early to mid-nineties looks pretty piss-poor versus what we have today accept in the best instances like Jurassic Park, Independence day or the Special Editions of the original Star Wars trilogy. They had to deal with even higher rendering times to get their quality.

[QUOTE="PSNIDCiocio313"][QUOTE="SaltyMeatballs"]What do you mean, like Pixar? Still a bit to go I guess, though some tech demos on PC look almost Pixar quality.SaltyMeatballsi mean you know how metal gear solid 4 was trying to be a movie and a video game put together, as well as, god of war 3... do you think video games have reached a level of graphics where it can be thought as a movie as well as a game... or a movie you can direct And like Heavy Rain? I would say so, in a way. Though I can see them being more limited than movies, seeing as they're games I suppose they would have to be somewhat action orientated, maybe in the future people would like to play some "romance" game and all those other obscure genres. Shawshank Redemption in a Heavy Rain style would be cool though. yea like heavy rain heavy rain has some awesome graphics , seems so movie like and final fantasy movie like yea shawshank redemption would be cool

like in the final fantasy movie?
or do video games have a long way to go before they can be thought as a movie and a video game put together?
[QUOTE="NotTarts"][QUOTE="Nerd_Man"] I don't think Ratchet & Clank looks remotely clean and crisp as even the first Toy Story film. Great for a video game, but I think video games still have a LONG way to go before comparing to CGI. I don't think even the best visuals on PC games (Crysis included) compare to CGI.

No? :P
Video games do have some amazing graphics, don't get me wrong. But, never once in my life have I looked at a video game of any kind and thought to myself: "Damn, I can barely tell if this is real or not." See, for CGI in movies, I have had those thoughts many times. Like I said, video games have a long way to go before they can truly match photorealism.games are close enough to photorealism,
what about Gran Tourismo? if that isnt photorealism i dont know what is
so why is it that older gamers are not too old for games?
are games geared toward the younger crowd or the older crowd as far as art direction goes?
are the graphics getting more realistic and movie like? is that why older gamers are gaming?
It shouldn't really matter 10-100, but you shouldn't have little 7-8 year old's playing Modern Warfare 2 lol.Foxi911yea i blame those unruly kids on modern warfare for annoying me to the point of confusion of a gamers age a little
but arent games more closely related to cartoons than universal media like music and movies? The same age limit for listening to music and watching TV.
