8800 gt 512mb $229-$249

8800gt 256mb $179-$199

OH MY GOD ARE YOU KIDDING ME? SWEET!!! $180 for a 8800GT 256mb... is it better that a GTS 320mb tho?

no, this is to be placed between the 8600 and 8800gts, the gts has more stream processors, 96 at the moment, being revised to 112, and the gt i believe is supposed to have 64 (double that of the 8600 with 32).

so i doubt performance will be equal to that of the gts, but for the price they are expecting it to be at i will be a great card for the money.

i bet you could run CS:S on it, just not well, my friend has a laptop with the ati x200 chipset, and it can play at low to medium low settings, so i bet the intel could get by on low.

well, i have a BFG 8800gts 320 meg version, i can run WiC and BioShock maxed out at 1280*1024 no problem, and if you are looking at a new PSU, i would look at the enermax liberty 620 watt, OZC gameXstream 600 watt, or the Corsair HX series 620 watt.

the reason i recomend ones with such high wattage ratings is its always nice to have some overhead incase you jump to SLI, another hard drive or two for a raid configuration.

nice, esspecially on the 12 cell, in power saving mode you are looking at an easy 5-6 hours on that.

2900xt is not $100 more than gts 640

noob

TClms5400

you are partially right, the 2900xt 512 meg version is the same price, but the 1 gig version is 100 bucks more, the benchmarks will more then likley be using the 512 meg, and the differance between the two will be negligable

and no need to be a jerk, you jump into forums just to call people n00bs?

i would be surprised if you could run it at the lowest possible settings, that chipset comes in many laptops, and that chipset has trouble running even WOW, and wow is a PoS when it comes to graphics.

Errr... no... I really don't think so. Macs are pretty bad for gaming since they're like a whole other platform. Some games can be installed on both pc and mac whereas some need a specific version for mac. So don't be hoping for a vista specific game to work on mac.

At least I think it's that way...

Mochyc

thats why he asked if it will work with bootcamp....so he can boot vista and play using that, correct?

I know, I didn't see that and deleated my post directly afterwards. My bad... :)

But to answer your question, theoretically, it's supposed to work, but I guess it all depends on your mac specs. I don't think you can upgrade your GPU with a mac so it might not exactly be worth it in the long run.

agreed, macs can not have a gpu upgraded and makes it not worth your while, just get a PC and install OSX on it if you are really bent on running OSX, other wise just run XP or vista and install what ever software it is you need.

The best way to fix this would be to replace the busted end. You'll need an RJ-45 end, a pair of snips and a crimper. First snip off the bad end and then cut back about an inch of the jacket, exposing the eight individual wires inside. Now arrange them in the proper pin-out order (usually white/orange orange white/green blue white/blue green white/brown brown) and slide them into the new end, make sure the jacket gets in there at the back of the end. Crimp it down and you're set. For more info/instruction do a Google search on making an ehternet/cat-5 cable.gurtman27

agreed, if that is to much work, just get a coupler as stated above, a couple is just a female to female adapter alowing you to plug a cable into each end, allowing you to essentially make an extension, but another cable will have to be purchased on top of the coupler.
