NGP and 3DS will both be highly succesful systems, no doubts about that. However, most people believe that the 3DS will outsell the NGP because they are reminded of what happened with DS vs PSP battle. DS was aimed at casuals, PSP was aimed at hardcore gamers. And this handheld gen almost looks the same, but will we really get the same results? I don't think so. Here's why:

1) Most casual gamers are playing on smartphones and tablets nowadays. The audience who purchased millions of DS units are the same audience that like to play games on smartphones. They understand that the 3DS is superior, but smartphones are considered "good enough". This is where hardcore audiences step in. A hardcore gamer would never play an FPS game on a 3-inch touchscreen device with virtual analog pads. If Nintendo were strategic, they would try their best to make the 3DS appeal to both hardcore and casual gamers. You can't always rely on casuals all the time.

2) The NGP is powerful enough to play games that use Unreal Engine 3 and similar engines. This means it can share multiplats with PS3, 360, PC, etc. Don't be surprised if some future games like Mass Effect, Dragon Age, BioShock, Fallout, and various others come out for NGP.Activision confirmed that CoD is coming to NGP (likely MW3), so don't expect the NGP to have a poor library.

It makes sense for Nintendo to go third party. They make awesome games, but out-of-date hardware. Microsoft is almost the opposite :P

Valve is a private company. They have no need to reveal sales numbers because they have no financial investors to report profits to.

Its way too early to tell whether one would buy multiplats on ProjectCafe :?bobcheeseball
Unless Project Cafe is totally mind-blowing, some people will continue igoring it and buy multiplats for something else. Other people will love it and buy multiplats for it regardless of how good it is. Oh, and don't forget achievement/trophies can affect a persons decision when it comes to multiplats.

When Project Cafe and NGP are released, you can bet there will be plenty of multiplats available for them, especially games running on Unreal Engine 3 and similar. Pretty soon, any "HD game" will be released on PS3, 360, Cafe, NGP and PC. Developers will love this idea, because they can make more money by expanding their audience across multiple platforms. Gamers may also enjoy the freedom to choose which system to buy for their multiplats. So, which system do you plan to buy most of your future multiplats? :)

"When asked about the delay, EA boss John Riccitiello said,

"sentially, step by step, [BioWare is] adjusting some of the gameplay mechanics and some of the features that you'll see at E3 that can put this into a genre euivalent of shooter-meets-RPG, and essentially address a far larger market opportunity thanMass Effect 1did andMass Effect 2began to approac

Mass Effect 2 removed A LOT OF CORE RPG ELEMENTS from Mass Effect 1. For example, weapons were much limited and there were a fewer amount of them in Mass Effect 2 compared to Mass Effect 1. In addition, Mass Effect 2 was WAY more linear then Mass Effect 1. You could explore the Citadel in ME1 while that was removed ME2.

weapon selection is a core rpg element? :?

Real time weapon change + giant enemy crabs (in ancient Japan) + attack its weak spot for massive damage = win I miss Sony E3 2006, lol But yeah, I really hope ME3 is not gimped further, or transformed into 95% shooter, 5% RPG. Otherwise ME4 is going to be another CoD clone

ZOMG UP AND COMING HARDWARE IS BETTER THAN 6 YEAR OLD HARDWARE?!?! NO WAY!!!gamebreakerz__

2011 tech crushing 2005 tech? Amazing

lucky_star

This is a low-end chipset, not something that is designed to compete against consoles directly. What if my microwave oven from 2011 has more CPU horsepower than an Xbox 360? Would you care about what year it was made in? Or simply the fact that a microwave oven has more power than a 360 is enough to surprise you?

I bet ME3 was probably delayed so it can be ported to NGP. That is one way to expand the audience. Why limit yourself to consoles and PC when you can save the universe while waiting for the bus to arrive? :)

Non-gamers + casual gamers = attracted to smartphones, Wii, DS, PS2, 3DS Mainstream + hardcore gamers = attracted to PS3, 360, PSP, NGP and PC Who elso does that leave behind for this "different consumer" that the Project Cafe targets? One could imagine :P
