@hulk9177: But that's exactly the point? Who do you think has the power in Hollywood? What gets seen by the widest audiences has predominantly been decided by a white majority. It is only relatively recent that black filmmakers have had any power in Hollywood on equal footing to white counterparts. Heck, it was only in 2006 that the first major black owned studio was created with Tyler Perry Studios. In a sea of predominantly owned and distributed productions, there is hardly anything wrong with one black filmmaker wanting to cast a black majority, black lead film.
@hulk9177: Why? He wants to bring big movies starring predominantly black people to an industry with a white majority. He's right. We've seen these movies with white leads for decades. And the genres horror genre rarely have black leads or black majority casts, especially major releases. Seeing as Peele's movies make money and even win awards, I don't really understand what the problem is. There's no shortage of opportunity for white actors.
@daidochus: He's explicitly said he will probably never have a white lead. So yeah, you're not going to see a white lead in his movies. I'm not sure why that's a problem.
@restatbonfire: It's a weird take. I think it was explained pretty clearly in the movie why those people did what they did. That opinion also flies in the face of all the cultural appropriation that happens. Obviously, Get Out was a massive exaggeration, but it's only a few steps away from cultural appropriation.
It was fantastic. I think I enjoyed it more than his first two films. The last 30-40 minutes keeps you on the edge of your seat and the way he plays with the genres he's working with here feels fresh and original. Loved it through and through.
