@ivangrozny: It wasn't perfect. It's story was rushed and dialogue was hammy. Characters like Aerith were annoying. There were parts in the game that felt rushed and needed to be fleshed out. They left questions that these new games will hopefully answer. The scope of the story will finally be met with a game that actually fulfills it through improved, epic gameplay and more detailed story.

@barnold81: Enjoy all 7 hours of it. I'm looking forward to RE3 too, but it's a short game. Even with a second playthrough, you'll only be looking at a couple days worth of gameplay.

That's disappointing, but I am still very much looking forward to this one. RE2 was fantastic, so if this is just good, even if not great, it'll be worth playing.

@Barighm: Most of the reviews out share the same sentiment. And the fact that Nemesis isn't stalking you throughout like the original is very disappointing. This review has some legitimate complaints, especially considering some of the design choices, like relegating Nemesis to cut scenes and boss fights for most of the game, and nixing the iconic clock tower, are baffling.

It was going to be necessary anyway. The dialogue of the original was always a big issue with the game anyway. Lots of cheesy moments and personality quirks that didn't come across right or didn't really seem to fit the characters. Just from the trailers I've seen, the characters are more nuanced and well rounded. It will be nice to see FFVII brought up to the level of modern game production, where values match that of films.

@Terrorantula: But the remake actually fits the epic nature of the game much better. The fights will actually be exciting, in motion consistently, and huge. The big fight at the end of the demo is a great example. FFVII is full of iconic moments, but the gameplay is outdated and even kind of dull now. The remake much more suits the nature of the game.

@irishplusfour: It's definitely going to be multi-part, as this game only covers Midgar. I would even say three parts is too small if they are expanding every part of the game the way they are just this first part.

@gaeandilth: When they say mainline, I'm not thinking that far back. 30-40 seems like it would be more correct and I am sure they will have a lot of extra stuff for you to do, but paying full price for a FF game that isn't the average length for a modern FF game would be very disappointing.

I am still wondering how you cram 50-60 hours of content into just Midgar. And if that's the case, we're getting three 50-60 hour games to cover a story everyone and their mother already knows? I'm excited for the game because the gameplay is great and the remake will do a good job of making up for the original's storytelling deficiencies, but Midgar is barely the tip of the original game. I get the feeling we're going to get a little bit of story with this and a whole lot of superfluous stuff to do that doesn't actually matter. But hey, at least the game will be fun to play.

@warmblur: But how many people are going to run out and get VR headsets now? Personally, I can't play because VR makes me nauseous, so I definitely won't be playing.
