@solid_snake1461: Zelda and the Mario game coming out in Nov/Dec. So... I'd wait until Black Friday maybe and pick it up on a deal.
But definitely pick it up. If you are a gamer, you have to play Zelda. Just like I had to play Uncharted and Last of Us. Just like I had to play Gears of War and Halo.
It's that good. It's a "system seller", as they say.
@lostn: We bought it for Zelda, pure and simple. Seeing some of the highest rated reviews ever, I couldn't resist.
Next game for us? Mario. In Nov/Dec. Still say 100% worth it. Zelda is very good. Best ever, in my opinion, and I have played every title but the handheld ones. Including the first game, Legend of Zelda, shortly after it launched in the 80s (yep, i'm old).
I would follow that with an "ugh", but we have games on our X1 and PS4 to hold us over until then!
@marcsmashing: I'm pretty sure those boxes you are seeing don't have Switches in them. Gamestop puts out empty boxes, for example. If you ask about buying one, they'll say "plop down $500, and it's GUARANTEED by April 15!"
Horizon: Zero Dawn is incredible, btw. I'm loving it and Zelda right now. It is my belief these two games are cousins, as they are closely related.
Yeah, we were lucky enough to pick up Zelda, I mean the Switch, on launch weekend.
Seriously, though, It's a neat console, and my wife is looking forward to playing some Zelda on the Switch as a handheld on a long car trip we have planned this weekend.
As for my feedback... I'd say the "switch" feature is pretty awesome, and works flawlessly. What doesn't work flawlessly? The "joy-con" controller if line of sight isn't perfect between it and the Switch in dock. Unlike our PS4 and X1, we gotta keep the line of sight free and clear. Then? No problems whatsoever.
Also - wish they would have included a USB charger for the joy-con controllers. The controller "frame" that comes with the console doesn't have a USB port for charging, and the only way you can charge them out the box is by attaching them to the Switch and playing portable. Or I suppose at night after a gaming session, but in our experience, they do not stay fully charged over 10 hours (launch day gaming as proof).
So... do yourself a favor and by the 29.99 charging frame for the controllers. Or a Pro Controller. Either way, you're set.
Got ours on Sunday the 5th at Target. Here's my advice how to do it...
Target gets new shipments in Saturday night, so swing by Friday or Saturday to ask a few people in the gaming section if they expect any. If so, just swing by your local Target at about 7:30-7:45 am Sunday, and be ready to grab one of the 10 or so units they'll have.
Word to the wise, pick up a charging controller while you are there. It costs $29.99, but the controller 'frame' that makes the two joy-cons into a controller doesn't have a way to charge them. Or pick up a pro controller, if they have them.
If you don't buy the charging controller 'frame' with USB, or buy the pro controller, then the only way to charge the joy-cons is to hook them to the Switch itself (it charges them even while playing with the Switch, tethered or un-tethered from the TV, btw).
Excellent compilation story. Here are my 5 favorite Zelda games of all time:
1) Zelda: Breath of the Wild (even though I haven't finished it yet. It's.. incredible)
2) Zelda: Ocarina of Time (first use of 3D, riding a horse, the ocarina.. fantastic)
3) Zelda Wind Waker (most under-rated Zelda game of all time, IMO)
4) Super Hydlide (sure, it's not a Zelda game. So what, it's my list)
5) The Legend of Zelda (every time I think of that incredibly gold cartridge, it reminds me of my youth. I had never seen or played anything like it. So.. maybe this is number 1... hm)
Not a shock, people. It's called installed base, and it's not an indicator of value or quality.
That said, I have both games, have played both in the past 24 hours, and both are fantastic. I see Assassin's Creed stealth and exploring tropes in both, along with dozens of other near flawlessly employed fighting and UI mechanics.
