I think it is easy to want forgiveness moments before your own death. At that point it is not usually motivated by genuine sorrow over what you have done, but by fear of the consequences you may now face for what you have done. God is ultimately the final judge of the heart thankfully.

Well if by length of the persecution, it would probably be women, however, if you mean severity of the persecution, it is a toss up between every race that has faced genocide by a persecuting power. jews, native americans, and whatever ones I don't know about

As has been brought up elsewhere in this thread, homosexual people's brains bear a structural resemblance to the brains of heterosexual members of the opposite sex. This would indicate that there is a physical structure to the brain that controls to whom one is sexually attracted, which would make the idea rather suspect that people can "choose" to be attracted to the opposite sex, unless they somehow change the physical structure of their brain in doing so.
