I really want to play Uncharted so I can judge it on merits other than shininess. Crysis was great fun on low settings, could the same be said for Uncharted I wonder? (If it were possible to set a console game on low)
Graphics are just gravy to me. If a game has a fun/original game mechanic, fluid controls, enthralling story, fun physics, and/or a decent length to it then I'm bound to love it. Toss on all the bump mapping and cell shaders you want after that.
Take Crysis for example. I played the demo on my pals computer before he got his full version/new graphics card bundle. We had to set everything on low to keep the framerate from going to hell but it was still an awesomely entertaining game. Sneaking up on guards with camo and punching them across the road, launching ballistic chickens at people, exploding shacks with grenades, it was all quite fun. Then he got the full version running on max settings and I won't lie, it was signifigantly more enjoyable. But it was great before the polish and that's my point.
Instead of just looking up scores and blindly basing my opinion around them, I tend to play games. Metal Gear Solid: Twin Snakes and Eternal Darkness are both outstanding games in my books. To be fair it's not right to give SK credit for a remake, but they certainly didn't foul it up so that counts for something.
Also, there is no definitely sound or valid way to logically hype a game.
I've noticed that no matter how good a sequel to a great game is people tend to say "It's good, but nowhere near as good as the first." or "It's downright terrible, not worthy of the original." Some people actually mean it, others just blurt it out because it seems to be the popular thing to do. Lets take a break from that dreary outlook and think more positively for a while. What are some sequels that you feel were an improvement over the original game.
Kingdom Under Fire. I havn't played the first one, but Circle of Doom is a colossal step down from the titles on original Xbox.
The Elder Scrolls is in second place. Oblivion is a shadow of what Morrowind was. I havn't played Daggerfall, but people say it was even better than Morrowind.
Dunno..... a dozen TV's. One of every system and whatever games I wanted. A couple of kick ass PC's. Some comfy chairs. A Bar with a bunch of different rums and whiskey's.... plus beer or whatever for guests.
If I had to spend all of it then I guess I'd toss in some pointless, needlessly expensive features. A glass floor with an aquarium of tropical fish underneath. Have it set up so that the walls would open up for outdoor gaming on nice days. A pet bear would be cool, even though it has nothing to do with gaming.
I'd make a character that used an all kicking style. He'd always have his arms folded, or have one hand help up to his chin like he was pondering something.... something that would keep his fists otherwise unavailable. Or maybe he wouldn't have arms at all. Naw, I like the pondering idea better.
