@gaeandilth: you are just chasing dragons here... For most ppl who are starting now the current games feel as good as those felt for us back then. And when they try the old they usually like them but still favor the newer ones.
BG3 and P5 are milestones in their genre, especially if it's your first contact.
@strangedr: Also.. as an RPG it's not THAT good. Its a good story RPG for an MMORPG. The story is nice but if you consider how much time you need to put up with its MMORPG design between good story parts the game is just ok.
For ppl who have all the time in the world, it might worth it. For others... density matters.
@tidus_ff: PArt of the point of cyberpunk dystopias is that you are just one more trying to get by. The things you described that could improve the game would only make it worse for me. Personal taste about storytelling.
I understand that the story did not resonate with you. But it did for a huge amount of ppl who like the genre.
@BIG_BOSS_927: "How has this personally affected you?", the thing with empathy is that it does not need to affect you personally. But even so, it's not a single-sided question for neither I nor anyone else who claims to feel for the ones affected.
It isn't straightforward to explain empathy to someone who doesn't have it. But basically, it is to put yourself in somebody else shoes and understand how the situation is for that person. So "why do you care?" comes from that.
But another "why do you care?" side is approached on GS video. For the ones who survived a layoff, it usually leads to fear of taking risks. Which in games, or anything somewhat related to art, leads to less inspired results. There's a selfish component in seeing the industry that produces something I like moving in a direction I don't like, this is something that has nothing to do with empathy and I think gamers fail to understand (in general).
But I agree with something you said in some other message. Empathy without action changes nothing. But another side of empathy is understanding that many ppl have the desire to make things better for others, but lack the power or the willpower to really do something about it.
Yes... But gamers are an idiot bunch who think they are smart because they can beat a game (which is made for you to beat it).
Also, most of our community call having woman and queer ppl in gaming as a "woke" thing... They arent capable of being kind or at least human in most cases.
Empathy and intelligence are not common traits in gamers, sadly. The solution, or the pushback, will not come from the community...
