@mboettcher: That article actually supports the OP's post. The point of that article is that 4K TVs make sense--but for all the reasons other than outputting in 4K.

As he says "Things have changed. Not, mind you, my feeling that resolution is the least important picture quality improvement we could be going for. That's still the case, and in test after test we still see evidence that the improvement from 1080p to 4K resolution is really difficult to appreciate."
