Although Homefront wasn't on a AAA budget, I loved it. The multiplayer was particularly fun. It felt like a cross between Battlefield and CoD, but had its own identity. That was the best part of Homefront and I feel like it's going to get lost in the translation. I don't even know if this version will have multiplayer but I'm not as excited about it as I once was.
@bobafetthatesu: I would have loved to have had a campaign, too. But, a campaign doesn't make a game. We're just conditioned that way because that's what gaming meant prior to the birth of online services in gaming. Gaming is playing, competing, and having fun. There are many genres for it. Playing a sports game like Madden, NBA, etc is nothing more than individual matches without a story, just like multiplayer in games like CoD which have always included campaigns, but find the majority of the player base in what has become the true meat of the game....it's multiplayer content. In fact, I would go as far as to say that if anything is a condiment to the meal, it's the campaign. Releasing games under this new model without a campaign isn't what you're accustomed to, but campaigns aren't mandatory to call a game complete. It just means they poured their resources into making the multiplayer as compelling as possible, and in Battlefront, they've nailed it. Now, I'm not saying games like CoD and Battlefield should stop including campaigns. We're also used to having both a story and multiplayer for the price of admission, so to omit it from an established franchise that's always included it, and then ask for the same selling price, wouldn't go over well. But for a new franchise, there's no reason it can't work. And yes, for all intents and purposes, this iteration of Battlefront is a new franchise. I'm happy with the content. I would still love to play through a Star Wars story, but I'm not faulting them for not giving me one with this game.
My biggest complaint, in both the old and new UI, is the large tile that takes up 3/4 of your home screen and does nothing more than show you the last game or app you were using. It hides my wallpaper and takes up valuable real estate to showcase the least important thing in my dashboard. Meanwhile, in the new UI, they've moved my pins off the screen entirely, to where I have to scroll down to get to them. Makes no sense. Get rid of that oversized, useless tile that blankets my home screen and replace it with "my games and apps" or leave it open so I can actually view my wallpaper on the home screen. One more thing....your wallpaper or background color only displays on the main screen and the first page or two to the right. After that, you get the standard dark gray background for your remaining menus and it breaks up the continuity. And btw, you can no longer double tab your home button to bring up the take screenshot or record that options. No idea how it's done now, or if it can be done without Kinect anymore. Frustrating experience, but it is improving and I hope by the time they roll it out to the public, these issues will be resolved.
@planetgloom: Last night, I got the most recent update and it resolved my internet connectivity issues, along with several other bugs I had experienced. I was literally on the verge of opting out before the update but it's much smoother now. Still has some issues but it's getting there.
@inebriantia: You're right and that's what's disappointing. I appreciate that anyone can have access to certain exotics if they're willing to follow the quest steps to obtain it. It was frustrating playing hundreds of hours before and never getting that Gjallarhorn or other coveted weapon, but when you did get an exotic drop, it was exciting! Now it's like "oh cool, another exotic for my collection". So although I appreciate the new system, I don't like the new quest options for exotics. I'd rather see the random drops, but with a system that detects what you already have or don't have, and a calculation that increases your chances based on how much you play, for example.
@FastRobby: Maybe, but that's half the cost of the actual game for some req packs and a cartoon. No thanks. Looking forward to playing the game though.
@PixelAddict: I just can't play the earlier ones anymore, even with the remaster. Mechanics are horrible by today's standards that I've grown used to. I'm replaying Halo 4 right now and it's great. Also getting caught up on the "Hunt the Truth" audio webisodes. Watching The Sprint on the Halo Channel is also interesting.
