@xolivierx @SIDEFX1 @lorider25 ZombiU is one of the three best survival horror games this generation (the others being Amnesia and Silent Hill: Shattered Memories).
And ZombiU does a number of neat things with the GamePad to both immerse you and distract you when you shouldn't get distracted, which is *perfect* for a horror game. I'm afraid the console may end its run with no other game ever matching ZombiU on how well the GamePad can be used.
@Megavideogamer I got a Wii U two months ago and to be honest I can't think for the life of me which game I would like to support two GamePads.
The best uses of the GamePad are either fully single-player or more focused on it (ZombiU, Lego City Undercover, Rayman Legends App), and the most interesting multiplayer offerings are asymetric (a couple Game & Wario and Nintendo Land minigames, Boost Mode in Mario Bros U, ZombiU's multiplayer).
And since the console is diverting processing power to send information out to a second screen, I don't know if it's worth it to risk framerate dropping to get a third screen/second GamePad working just because.
I was hoping Nintendo would do it before getting the console, but now it seems that was only a knee-jerk response - all the other consoles accept at least two of its main controllers after all. But for the Wii U, so far it doesn't make sense.
@bunchanumbers @BradPoynor @lovesykpuppy I must admit - while I like all Halo games, I LOL'ed at the fan fiction joke.
But then again I never took the story in the Halo games too seriously, probably because I only got to play them alongside Mass Effect. It's like reading Spawn and Shakespeare at the same time. Different strokes et al, but there's no doubt what's the masterpiece and what's the dumb fun entertainment in such cases.
@edpeterson I'd generally agree with that, except that most of the latest (strategy) JRPGs for the Nintendo 3DS are all above 80 or even 90 on Metacritic: Fire Emblem, Etrian Odyssey IV, Shin Megami Tensei IV... And for specific outlets even Project X Zone was given 8 or more (I love the game for what it is, but it isn't really that good as a strategy RPG).
I believe the issue is with certain journalists and outlets, and you need to recognize those that should never be trusted with anything Japanese, RPG or not. In here, I'd doubt that score if it had been given by *anyone else* but Kevin and Heidi Kemps (who should replace Carolyn Petit in everything possible right now, even as she probably wouldn't condone me asking for this). Take a look at Heidi's review list in here and see that she knows her JRPG stuff.
@Rattlesnake_8 @Assertonsin Wait, what? THE LAST OF US of ALL GAMES? You're kidding, right? I don't read articles on GameSpot anymore, much less these ones, so not to give them pageviews. I can't believe it.
I thought the height of stupidity from Carolyn was calling the twist about Fitzroy in Bioshock Infinite a "racist" moment that made the "Columbia white people seem right", but THAT takes the cake.
@GreenReuben @RealFabioSooner @Assertonsin Indeed PXZ is lacking when compared to other turn-based strategy games, but it *does* have some strategy (it gets deeper as you go), it features a cool mechanic at its battle core, and it's a blast as a crossover game - which is its main reason for existing. If I want deep strategy I'll go for Fire Emblem.
But that's all beside the point, because Carolyn's score and review fits that old saying very well: "even a broken clock is right twice a day". If she scores every game a 6.5 left and right, at some point the score will *seem* to fit. "Luckily", what really matters is the actual review, and by reading that you'll see that Carolyn wouldn't know strategy even if it hit her in the face, and that she scored the game lower due to her own agenda and little else.
No wonder her review is getting a lot of flack - it's wrong in all levels and no matter how you approach it, even when it seems right (the score). It's not just a matter of "opinion" (oh the mighty "right of opinion", the excuse for all stupidity in the modern world!), but of inadequacy: you can't really argue the score when that review is framed in a way where it doesn't actually judge the game by its own merits, intentions or goals, but by a personal agenda first and foremost. One may be distracted by the number of fans wanting it to be scored higher, but even for someone that would agree with the score, the review is idiotic and unfair.
@Assertonsin Look at the reviews page, she reviewed Project X Zone a couple of weeks ago and gave it - guess what - a 6.5 (it's a running gag at this point, some people call her Carolyn 6-5).
She got a LOT of flack for that review too, people are getting very, very tired of all her incessant feminist babble.
@lex_in_the_moon That's funny to hear when we've had more great 3DS titles in the last few months than the rest of the 3DS history , such as Fire Emblem, Luigi's Mansion, Etrian Odyssey IV, Animal Crossing, Shin Megami Tensei Soul Hackers, Monster Hunter 3, Mario & Donkey Kong Minis, Zelda Oracle of Ages/Oracle of Seasons, Project X Zone... And soon Shin Megami Tensei IV and Dream Team.
I bought the 3DS XL right after Fire Emblem and I think I got it at the perfect time.
@thebambom See, *your* reaction is a reflection of *real* bias: just because someone is tired of a political agenda being pushed all the time, it doesn't mean someone is *against* it, be it in its entirety or not. Also, it doesn't mean someone is evil: politics are not a black or white affair. And still, you automatically assume that someone has "bigoted views" here. Pretty much like the idiots that believe someone must be "racist" if one doesn't approve Obama as a president - and failing to realize that, by making such wide logical leap, *they* are the ones judging people by race first and foremost.
I don't come here to read *all the time* the same things I can read visiting the politics sections of news websites I trust. I come here to read about games. It's in the site's name, mission and statement of intention. Sure, games do not exist in a bubble, but when politics are pushed at EVERY SINGLE OPPORTUNITY then it becomes an issue, no matter if these opportunities are appropriate/made in good faith or not (and let's be frank, we know they often are NOT appropriate - Carolyn's view of Fitzroy in Bioshock Infinite being the most clear example, since she missed the point of that character's ending by thousands of miles*).
@funkymonkey4710 "FEMINISM IS NOT THE HATRED OF MALES, it is seeing the equal treatment of men and women together."
You're stuck back in the 60s. Feminism today is nothing but gender-based Marxism. Review current feminist literature and you'll see they'll only get angry at "gender inequality" when it matches leftist goals to a T. If, say, Sarah Palin gets raped by Democrat congressmen, modern feminists won't lift a finger or write a single word on the matter. Heck, some would even say "serves her right". Sometimes they won't do it even if it's a black woman raped by a black man, just so they won't need to deal with anything their leftist colleagues could consider "racist".
Just listen at how many modern feminists are actively going after Islam's oppressive take on women as opposed to, say, stereotypical Japanese games: *cricket sounds* That happens because most left-wing scholars and politicians *want* to see Islam rise against the "tiranny" of the West. Modern feminists won't risk being alienated from the leftist agenda, even if their supposed convictions would dictate they should.
The last real feminist was Camille Paglia. That ship has sailed and all you have now indeed is hatred of males - or more accurately, hatred of self-made white males.
