@SoreThumbsBill @alenth I loved that dwarf homoerotic comeback: the lead artist responded in the exact same tone and logic as the original complaint. Sometimes it's just impossible to take the moral high ground, you just have to refuse to be bullied and bully back. And these days, political correctness is pretty much disguised bullying.

@evil-zodiark @thebambom Bingo! All these people that defend this approach to reviewing would be all up in arms if anyone tried to do the exact same thing, just from another angle that isn't previously approved by political correctness or certain ideologies. It's intellectual hypocrisy at its finest.

@Diablo-B @KillerOttsel Yeah, it's just getting tiresome - and it hints that in truth it's an agenda far beyond and more important than the games themselves.

@PLH2034 Just so you know, I wrote a big post about this and it was deleted.

I did not offend anyone, I just said that it won't do to ask to "get rid of Petit" because it will only make she act more like a victim, because that's the modus operandi self-victimized people take these days. Also said that the only way to deal with it is to do the same as it happened with Microsoft's draconian policies: by not downloading and listening to podcasts with her in it.

Of course it was deleted, as this one probably will also be, proving my point: people with that mentality can't handle dissenting opinions - they can only accuse others of all kinds of horrible things to appeal not to reason but emotion. It's social bullying to impose a point of view in the world. You either agree with all she (and Kevin, and McShea) say about "sexism" or you're an horrible person that hates everyone. It's intellectual dishonesty at its finest. It's the same mentality that tries to sell everyone that if you don't agree with Obama you "must be a racist".

Shame on you, guys. Shame on you. I know you won't care about losing a listener, specially one you automatically deem "hateful" just because one doesn't agree with you, but I'll still speak up in the hopes you get to think a little bit at night, look at the mirror and think you'll really be able to tell yourselves you practice what you preach about "respecting differences".

Not fast enough with my editing skills. It should be
"There's a CHASM between tolerating dissenting opinions..."

@PLH2034 Don't ask for that, you'll only give more grounds for her to act even more as a victim and keep bitching about "sexism" and "oppression" at every. single. opportunity, no matter if there's merit to the claim or not.

You have to understand the mindset of people indoctrinated into the current trend of self-victimization in all of Western culture. They set things up in a way where you just can't contest them in any level without making yourself look like a cold-blooded person who "doesn't care" about others. It's not about rationality and equality, it's about making a scene. It's the political version of "attention-whoring" that later escalates as a form of social bullying.

The only way to deal with it is to ignore it. As some famous figure I can't recall said, the best way to make a [liberal/communist/socialist] look bad is to let him or her speak freely. Given time, the shallow nature of their speech gets through even to the most sheepish average Joe. You can only manipulate people with emotion for so long, at some point they'll use their rational minds at least a little bit.

A very educational video about this (just try to phase out the Republican talk and pay attention to how the social bullies operate):
http://vimeo.com/64213620#at=0

I refused to comment on every podcast derailed by constant "sexism" bitching because of this, even when I had to endure stuff said that were downright dishonest and childish (to say the least). I'm only bothering to post this in here because I believe there are a lot of listeners that feel the same way but feel too bullied to speak out.

The only reason I still put up with it in this podcast is because of Kevin, who may share all or most of the same positions as Petit but at least is level-headed enough to avoid pushing them incessantly
(or at least is smart enough to let her bear the burden of doing this, it doesn't matter in the end). There's a CHASM between being intolerant of dissenting opinions and having to endure constant bitching. I can handle the former, but the latter is achieving a breaking point in GameSpot gameplay - and that became very evident when we had a couple of Petit-free casts recently and they were funnier, smarter and more informative overall (even the one with the Gamespot UK guys, some of which I don't really agree with/like as journalists but were amusing all the same).

So if you're one that feels the same way, just do what I intend to do from now on: refuse to download and listen to any cast that has Petit in it. And if Kevin doesn't mention the participants in an episode's description, refuse to download and listen to it just to prevent giving more clicks/downloads inadvertently to any episode she may be in. The only effective way to deal with it is to demonstrate direct displeasure. We did it with Microsoft's draconian policies, and all of the Gamespot's podcast crew found it beautiful and valid. Let's see if they keep the same mentality when it reaches themselves.

@stan_boyd @SipahSalar @Mojtabatiger It's not that simple. Yeah, it would be ridiculous to, say, give an indie game a lesser score and list things like "lack of polish" or "short length" as downsides to a US$ 10 dollar indie game; you can't expect it to hold up the same standards as an AAA game that costs US$ 60 and delivers dozens of hours with state-of-the-art technology.

BUT on the other hand there are LOTS of indie games that are just a somewhat neat idea stretched to its limits earning 9's just out of sympathy. Or even worse, games that are barely functional platformers with nothing new to show getting OK reviews from the same people that complain a lot when, say, shooters pull the exact same stunt - it's just that one's trying to emulate Mario and the other, Call of Duty.

If you shouldn't give a good score to an AAA game just because it's pretty and had a big budget, it just stands to reason you can't give an indie game a bigger score just because it's somewhat quirky. In both cases you're sidestepping the main thing, which is game design and how it drives the game to its main purpose and concept. These have nothing to do with budget and therefore shouldn't be brushed aside, they're the main focus of any honest review.

Hipster journalism ("oh the indies are saving gaming!") and dudebro attitude ("oh god this is boring when the shooting will start?!") are actually both sides of the same coin - that of intellectual mediocrity.

@Simplythebest12 Of course it will - what Live Arcade game doesn't? (AFAIK the only Arcade game in 2012 not to come to PCs later was Hybrid - barring Kinect-required games like Wreckateer, of course).

It seems it won't come soon though.

I'll still wait as the trial was clunky as all hell, not to mention bug-ridden as this review recognizes.

@POKEDBZ44 @RealFabioSooner Yeah. I never cared much about Smash Bros (and I do have Melee and Brawl) and Megaman, but that trailer was so amazing that it got even myself pumped for the game.

@POKEDBZ44 @jsmoke03 Just anecdotal evidence, but where I live there's a surprising trend of stores getting out of Wii U units in stock after E3. I had to walk around a bit to find mine. It seems a lot of people had the same reaction I had: not getting the Xbone at all, the PS4 can wait until a few games are out, so the Wii U is a good bet for the rest of the year after the new announcements.

And eventually Shin Megami Tensei x Fire Emblem will come out anyway. I bought the 3DS for Fire Emblem and 2 SMT games, so I would get the Wii U anyway at some point. Might as well get it now.
