Spec Ops, but technically I want anything where I won't be doing something behind the lines or repetitive.

The_Ish

Not to insult you, but are you serious? You want to do Special Operations, but want to stay away from the enemy lines... that's not going to happen. They don't have a Special Ops that only operate in peacetime and don't go near the action. If you're hesitant about seeing combat, DEFINATELY stay away from the Marines and the Army, and there are only a very select few jobs in the Navy and Air Force that you won't see combat. In other words, join the Coast Guard :)

You could also look into Security Forces in the Air Force, we're cops. Being a cop and doing law enforcement, it won't be repetative (but you'll still have a good chance of a little action in the desert)

Alright, so I just got done watching fight club, and the ending confused me. Why did the Brad Pitt Tyler Durden die/go away and the other Tyler Durden stay alive? The movie confused me sooooo many times, plus I didn't really get the motive/reason of the movie.:?Zeldaguy16

In the book, Edward Norton actually killed himself, they had to pretty it up for the movies. My explanation is that Edward Norton actually thought he killed himself, 100% believed he killed himself which killed Brad Pitt.

As for the motives / reasons of the movie, it's one of the most philosophical movies ever made, preaching society's faults, non-materialism, and non-mainstream living. Try watching it again, pay closer attention.

The Air Force.

btw what category would the S.A.S. be put in? because they are the best of the best.

dylan9999

SAS is British, I was just talking about American military. Btw, Delta Force > SAS. Oh, and Israeli Spec Ops > Delta Force

Well, if you want to do only 2-3 years there is a significant downside. If you select under a 4 year enlistment for the Army or the Marines (i.e. 2-3 years), you won't get to pick your job, so they'll throw you into infantry if they want to (despite what the recruiter will tell you). Even at 4, it's sketchy. The Air Force supposedly has a 2 year enlistment, but it's a VERY well kept secret if it does indeed exist, but you'll have to look into that.

The_Ish

Well, I;m not keen on just doing a desk job, but I'm also not keen on patrolling the entire time. Any advice?

Well, you'd have to tell me what you're interested in doing. There's virtually hundreds of jobs. Anything to a tech guy, air traffic controller, special ops, police (me!), firefighters, bomb squad, desk jockies, you name it.

They don't have enough people enlisted to cycle them any faster, unfortunately. The Army does the same thing, 12-14 month deployments, a 4-6 month cooldown, and another 12-14 month deployment (unless you're wicked smart and lucky, and get a good desk job). If you ever have any questions before you join and don't want a lying recruiter to deal with, PM me.

The_Ish

That's what I am most on the fence about.

I don't want to be cycled in and out all the time. After about 2 or 3 years, I want to start working civilian jobs again. But I feel like I am wussing out if don't join because of that.

Oh, and Marines.

I want to join, but I am still on the fence.

I know next to nothing about their requirements.

The_Ish

As for now, their requirements are slim. They need people, badly. I wouldn't reccomend it, however, unless 14 month deployments to Iraq sounds appealing to you. The Air Force does 6-8 month deployments, and we're treated a LOT better. Your call, though.

Why such a difference?

Because you can't just keep killing boars at your level. Move it up to bears, and eventually dragons.
