Don't you know?

Emo kids are all trained in White Lotus Kung-Fu.

Ah, the ancient Chinese art of face-punching!

An emo is someone who is depressed, wears a lot of black, wears tight jeans (I'm not saying everyone who wears tight jeans is emo), and cuts themselves. BTW I do not hate emos. If I can help them in any way I want to.

Also, didn't they used to be called "gothic"?

No, goth and emo are two different things, but people often get them confused. Goth is just another social label branded on people who wear dark clothing, wheras emo is a sub-genre of rock that came from the 80s. Either way, both are taken as labels with no definite material to either of them, because most of the time it's spewed from ignorant high school students that don't bother to find out more about a person they don't understand. Either way you look at it, people take both the wrong way, and no one really knows what they are about.

So what is a gothic?

No one knows for sure, it's just a label for someone who wears excessively black clothing and sometimes black eyeliner. That's about the best answer I've found.

Actually I have seen where "gothic" is a time period in the art of painting. Back in the 1400s (I think) there was a different style of painting. So people just labelled it the gothic years.

That's an era, not a social label.

Like I didn't know that. :PI'm just trying to give out all the info I know on what the heck "gothic" is.

Literally speaking, it's not a social label, but in contemporary language yes it is. Kind of like 'cool' isn't ACTUALLY referring to a temperature, but it's accepted. Wow, I'm nitpicking worse than an English teacher... sorry...

People, people. Calm down. The title of this thread is "What do you consider it to be?" Meaning, personal opinions. Why are people freaking out?

(no offense intended, this is just my opinion)

My idea of emo is children that refuse to grow up and face the world. Children with WAY too much time on their hands, and have the inability to open their eyes and see that their life, in comparison to the rest of this screwed up world, is very good. They wallow in their own "depression" and cut for attention. They all seem to think that they're "original" yet they still fall into this increasingly growing trend of 'emo.' Just my opinion.

[QUOTE="RiSkyBiZ-13"]I think it's simply because people are easily influenced, it's in our nature. Film-Guy

But what about those who dont follow trends?

Generally speaking, everyone follows a trend. It may not be the most popular trend, but still a trend.

Nobody celebrates Christmas for it's religious aspects. Sure, some go to church, but it's just a huge consumer holiday, nothing more.
