Gamespot reviewed it (360 version) and gave it a 3.5 and I don't see how this could've been worse than the buggy, load screen filled mess that was Sonic 06.kbaily
It was nowhere near as bad as 06, but it was almost more dissapointing. It really pisses me off because this is not a run of the mill bad game. Sega clearly knew what they were doing, they addressed the complaints of previous games and made something that fans should have praised universally. Sure it would have been about 7 hours or less but it would have been 7 hours of pure bliss. But they couldn't just walk away from that, they had to go the extra unnecessary mile and boost the game with a 10+hour gimmick that could have worked as a minor tack on but got thrown into the limelight 5 hours too often. Only Sonic Team can find a way to actually snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.
I'm labeling this one under dissapointment. No matter what console you play it on, Sonic Unleashed is a highly polished but poorly paced mess. The 360 version has too much Werehog Limelight and the Wii version has crappy Werehog controls, both of which take up nearly 2/3s of the game. From now on, the only Sonic games I'm looking into will have a 75 of above on Metacritic.com. I let a Sonic game excite me and got dissapointed. What a surprise.
[QUOTE="sonicphc"]Meh. Their stuff is all references to the comics, and most of that humor they use is sexually related. If I cared for the comics, I might appreciate it more.kbaily
Many of them were funny but as Sonicphc said, I don't read the comics either so I don't get all the jokes there and it would be nice if that site had a search feature so you could find certain comics pertaining to certain things.
There are a lot of comic references in there but several also poke fun at new games of the time (Rush Adventure, Chronicles, Unleashed, I think one of them even referenced Ben Yatzee's E3 speech on pessimism)One question in terms of difficultly is it easier to play than Sonic and the Secret Rings. I ask because well the levels were annoying in that game it took me anbout 5 or 6 trys in that game.chocolate1325That pretty much describes Unleashed. The Difficulty is fair, but you may have to play through a stage more than once to get a feel for it. Another thing worth noting is that the scoring system is a lot harder on you, a change I welcome after Next-gen's pathetic ease (It was nearly impossible to score below a B rank). And Sonic's exit animation changes based on the rank, for example, If you get a B, he'll stare at the results, smile and start clapping. If you get an E however, he'll walk away depressed during the calculation of the results while Chip tries to comfort him.

Run by Adam Goodenough, Jeff Krull, and Andy Goodenough, Power Rings is a Sonic the Hedgehog web-comic that pokes fun at the entire franchise (The games, SatAm, X, you name it). There's a degree of humor to be found in nearly every entry (over 100) so check it out.
After about 4 hours of play last night, I can safely say Unleashed met my expectations, granted they were lowered by early reviews. The opening cinematic is beautiful but once I picked up the controller, all hopes I had of Sonic returning to greatness were instantly dashed. By now you must be thinking "Gee Rider, is it really that bad", and in short NO!!! It's not bad at all, I just want people to know it's not going to be the radical change in quality it was hyped up to be.
The Story, which thankfully stops the Hyper-realism attempted by certain lesser 3D platformers(*cough* Sonic Next-gen *cough*), follows Sonic's attempt to piece the continents of the world back together after Robotnik's most recent scheme for world domination separates them from the planet's core. Immediately after the following cutscene, I was treated to the tutorial level, which I advise all to pay attention to, showing that this is a very different kind of Sonic game (No spin-dash, new Homing attack controls, and of course the new moves of the game Quick Step and Sonic drift). This game is like the offspring of Rush(DS) and Secret Rings(Wii), and like those 2 games, the controls of both the 3D and 2D plain take some getting used to, but once you get them down, you'll never want to go back. The first level of this game alone is easily 5x more advanced than anything in Sonic Next-Gen(360/PS3). And most importantly, the load screens are short and the Framerate has yet to dip from all that I've played(So basically IGN screwed up, the 360 version's just fine).
And now the Were-hog, the most disputed feature of the game. Don't believe the complaints, the Were-hog sections work just fine. The controls are tight and the animation is solid. If I had any complaints with these sections, the camera can get a bit jumpy when you try to do anything more than what it wants (think Adventure 2 but more tame) but honestly it works so well that I wouldn't mind seeing a spinoff game dedicated to these sections alone (albeit requiring some more polish).
So what holds Unleashed back from greatness? 1 word, pacing. I can forgive the occasional camera issues, but this game seriously needs to decide its direction. I timed the game from the end of the first daytime stage to the beginning of the 2nd, 57 freaking minutes! The hubworlds are well designed, and the Were-hog gameplay isn't bad, but they're seriously overpowering the best quality of the game, the fact that it's 3D and (barring off Secret Rings) fun for the first time in 4 years. It's like eating a pile of Belgian Waffles that have gone soggy from an oversaturation of syrup, they're still good waffles but all of the delicious natural flavoring has been covered up by the standout additions. nonetheless I've enjoyed what I've played so far and look forward to reviewing it upon completion. So far, I'd say a solid 7 to 7.5 out of 10.
Amazingly Xplay finally got around to reviewing it which surprised me though bear in mind despite their "franchises that need to die" bit they did sometime back they have given 4/5s to Sonic Heroes, Sonic Advance 3, Sonic Rush, and Sonic Rush Adventure so they're not as anti-Sonic as you think. They even gave Sonic Riders a 3/5 and didn't complain much about the whole "Sonic shouldn't be riding a hoverboard" thing. My biggest surprise was Secret Rings only getting 2/5 from them. But here's their Chronicles review.

X-play gave Sonic Heroes a 3/5. I saw the review on G4 rewind this summer.
