I built a computer two summers ago with a 3200+, 2x512 mb ram, and a cheap radeon x300se graphics card because i wasnt planning on playing games. I was surprised how well the card worked..it acutally ran half life 2 and battlefield 2 well. Im considering getting vista and thought id get a little upgrade before i went to college. Im considering
EVGA 256-P2-N541-T2 GeForce 7600GS 256MB GDDR2 PCI Express x16 Video Card - Retail
and
CORSAIR ValueSelect 1GB 184-Pin DDR SDRAM DDR 400 (PC 3200) Desktop Memory Model VS1GB400C3 - Retail
Is this a good idea?

Flashing your B.I.O.S. is a good -safe bet if you want to upgrade your C.P.U. Your chances of conflicts or the dreaded B.S.O.D. decreases with a B.I.O.S. flash.roulettethedog

sorry but what does that mean?

I have the amd 3200+ and may look to upgrade my whole rig in the near future. I built this computer myself but am curious if a cpu upgrade requires more work than just replacing the old with the new and letting the system recognize it on its own.  On that topic...i ahve 1 gig of ram, should i get another in the process?

Two years ago i built a comptuer with the help of people on this forum. I go to college next year and jsut want to upgrade my computer for reliability and performance if i decide to get vista. I have a cheap video card( SAPPHIRE 1024-2C50-04-SA Radeon X300SE 128MB DDR PCI Express x16 Low Profile Video Card - OEM) and 2 512 sticks of ddr 400(pc 3200) ram( CORSAIR ValueSelect 1GB (2 x 512MB) 184-Pin DDR SDRAM DDR 400 (PC 3200) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model VS1GBKIT400 - Retail). My motherboard manual recomends not to fill all 4 ram slots for some reason, but im thinking of getting a 1 gig stick. What cheap(and i mean cheap around 50 bucks-i dont place games on the computer) video card should i get and how much/what ram should i get?

my other specs are a amd 3200+(2.0gh) and a pci-ex16 mothboard
