@livedreamplay: Thanks for the clarification. I appreciate that. Now it may only be speculation, but Sony may have had to implement Trophies at their launch because Xbox 360 already had Achievements. Mere speculation. Another possibility is that developers might have had their influence in that they wanted to do something similar, not completely different, for the two consoles in their games. Who knows? I guess only those in the back rooms would really know. [I dare someone who really knows to weigh in on how it all happened.] Point is Microsoft did Achievements right with the Xbox 360. They didn't need to meddle with them on the Xbox One and shouldn't have.
I do hope they make significant improvements to the achievement system. What they had on the Xbox 360 worked well and set the bar high in the industry, so much so that (it would appear) Sony had to follow with Trophies. And they've just mucked it up on the Xbox One. They changed the rules and developers are free to take this in various directions, which may have little to do with playing the game as it was designed to be played. I like a system with rules (that matches the game). Maybe there are are a defined set of rules for the Xbox One, but they aren't readily apparent to me and they aren't as good as they were for the Xbox 360. As for timed-based achievements, they are USELESS! Please blast them to smithereens, and give us something better. Thanks. I look forward to the background music feature when it's finally released, but I can wait. But I also hope the Kinect gesture navigation is fixed as well.
This does';t seem to be as bad as Dan Auty made it out to be. It really comes down to story, characters and execution. If it has all that and it pulls me into a mythical world, count me it, even if the special effects are a bit cheesy. But you can't tell from the Trailer if it indeed has these other components, so we'll wait and see what happens upon release. But I'm hoping for something good.
I agree with a lot of what others have written, and more optimism would go a long way. I also think that this is supposed to be a super-hero squad, a team, but in the movies they squabble and bicker way too much. There is no real cohesion to them working together. It feels like disjointed characters who don't know how to play well with each other. It's like an online COD game where although you're playing on a team, everyone else seems to be out for themselves, doing their own thing, and they only talk to you if they have to. It all leaves a bad taste in your mouth - so much less than it could be.
So, if they ever do another movie, it has to be optimistic (like Supergirl, which is great by the way), and they need to emphasize that their teamwork is what makes them effective as superheros, which would differentiate them from all solo/independent heroes. Make their unity key to their strength, which they are all very aware of and deeply value. Reed Richards and Ben Grimm are supposed to be the best of buds. Reed and Sue are supposed to be madly in love. Sue and Johnny are supposed to be siblings who love each other. Let's see this, not a bunch of whining misfits (a la Anakin Skywalker in Attack of the Clones). Note that optimistic doesn't mean campy. Humorous, yes, but within context of the story and the characters. I really don't want a story about 4 independent characters finding themselves. Other superhero movies do this better. Make it ALL about the team. Make me want to watch why this team works so well together. Make me want to be that tight with teammates. Make we want to have any of these characters by my side or covering my six. Amaze me with their collaboration and combo moves, and celebrate their camaraderie. I don't want to watch a bunch of whining immature wannabe's fumbling to triumph by the end of the movie. Be real and authentic, take it all seriously, and make them the kick-ass team they ought to be.
Ant-Man has shown us that you don't need to have the most awesome powers, you just have to execute a well written story with well developed characters that is convincing. If they could deliver a movie like that, I am sure it would do well. But now they have to give it some time, because with the failures they've had in both iterations, the audience (myself included) will be gun-shy on this franchise.
This is all complicated by the fact that Fantastic Four is one franchise that Marvel licensed out to another studio (20th Century Fox in this case) before they started to make their own movies. I'm not sure how, but unlike Fantastic Four they managed to do the right things with X-Men, another franchise 20th Century Fox took hold of - though they did make the world and the characters all believable - perhaps because there was more clarity to each of the characters.. Spider-Man (licensed to Columbia/Sony) is the other successfully licensed franchise so far, but these movies have been somewhat inconsistent. Now, Sony has partnered with Marvel/Disney to bring Spidey back into the fold (and part of the Marvel universe) as we move forward. But as far as Fantastic Four is concerned, 20th Century Fox should either do the same (partner with Marvel), or learn from everything Marvel has done right with the movies they have released since Iron Man 1. Marvel knows how to do a superhero movie right. If you won't measure up to what they are doing, don't even bother.
I hope someone at 20th century Fox is paying attention. Otherwise, kiss this franchise goodbye.
@RadPro: I personally would love to see co-op - at least 2-[layer. Not sure about 4 player. But it would have to be drop in/out, so you could play the game by yourself if you want (and it wouldn't feel any different than what has been).
@Dav_id83: I wouldn't say it's a mess or broken. Flawed perhaps in different ways. But the goal to use Darksiders II HD on new gen consoles as a measurement to move forward on Darksiders III is misplaced, because the base audience who played Darksiders II on previous gen consoles (i.e., me) may not want to play it again on the new gen. - how many times can I be expected to buy and play the same game? So they are basically targeting new players who haven't played it before, with a few die-hards thrown in. Could be a hard sell to get enough numbers from new gen players. It should be the total number who played on previous gen + those who play it on new gen. And yet, with limited great titles on new gen consoles, it might do fine. It's hard to say. But I hope Nordic Games looks at all the metrics, and also realizes that they do have a fanbase who love this franchise. If Darksiders III is done right the fanbase could grow.
@Chyld989: I agree, but I want the improvements to combat, skills, weapons, game-play, and graphic detail that was in Darksiders 2. And ensure there is a great story with great Boss battles scattered throughout.
Don't need, don't want an online MMO Borderlands. I like the co-op nature of what Borderlands is, via spit-screen, System Link (on Xbox 360) and online. They could perhaps support 4 v 4 in Borderlands 3 in various arenas (as a new mode). But I want to see what they can iterate on with the existing series, though I realize that innovation will be hard going forward. Perhaps a brand new story-line, even a new planet could be interesting. Of course some new characters, though it may be interesting to ALSO be able to choose from any of the previous ones. Maybe the ability to travel between a few planets, which could introduce space battles and interesting space creatures that exist in space or on asteroids. I think they've got a lot to explore and play with. I am NOT disappointed with no MMO version. I think it keeps them focused on making Borderlands 3 even better.
