Thanks for the low down guys. Could I get some deeper insight as to whether the Sony Vaio graphics card of GeForce GT 640M 1GB would be better than my existing desktop graphics card of GeForce GTS 250. Also would upgrading the GeForce GT 640M 1GB to 2GB be worth the extra cost of an additional £30 / $50 and would the 2GB card be significantly better than the 1GB?

Hey guys I'm looking at a Sony Vaio S Series laptop here. I'm intending to use it for uni next year primarily + gaming to a fairly large extent hopefully by running higher-end games such as Stalker, Starcraft,The Witcher etc. I was wondering if I could have some opinions on how well the below laptop specs could run today's higher-end PC games, particularly in regards to the graphics card. And if the graphics card wouldn't cut it, would a 2GB version be worthwhile for the additional +£30/$50? Thanks in advance!

Sony Vaio S Series

Processor: Intel Core i5 - 3210M, 2.5GHz (with Intel Turbo Boost Technology up to 3.1 GHz with 3MB L Cache + 2 Cores)

Memory: 8GB 1333 MHz DDR3-SDRAM (2 x 4096MB)

Graphics Card: GeForce GT 640M 1GB

Screen Resolution: 1920 x 1080

Other: Windows 7 Home Premium, 500GB Serial ATA (5400 rpm), Blu-Ray Disc Player, Extended Battery Life (9-13 hours)

Cowboy, a programmer at Naughty Dog, confirmed they split into two teams after Uncharted 2 on last nights live bombcast on giantbomb.com. Check the archive if you'd like to know more.MethodManFTW
Ah fair play. I guess theoretically given Naught Dog divided fall 2009, then a fall 2012 release would allow for 3 years of development of The Last of Us which seems pretty possible for a new IP. Sorry for the inaccurate sources and wasting your time.

[QUOTE="MethodManFTW"][QUOTE="Rootbeer95"][QUOTE="MethodManFTW"] They have two teams. Most of the Uncharted 2 team didn't work on Uncharted 3 and have been working on this.

Yeah but regardless of that, Uncharted 2007, Uncharted 2 2009, Uncharted 3 2011 all points toward a 2013 release for The Last of Us. Just sayin', don't be surprised if they hold back the release due to a lack of time as they might need both teams to get the most quality and best out of the game.

They went into two teams after Uncharted 2.

There sir, your knowledge is false! http://www.gamerevolution.com/news/naughty-dog-officially-split-into-two-teams-9999 http://twitter.com/cbalestra/status/145672422534823936 http://uk.ps3.ign.com/articles/121/1214587p1.html http://news.softpedia.com/news/Naughty-Dog-Feels-Great-With-Two-Teams-Studios-Says-243019.shtml The team actually split after Uncharted 3 not 'after Uncharted 2' as you said so while there was some development before Uncharted 3, this development was only dedicated to a small corner of the team. Mass scale development of The Last of Us only began post-Uncharted 3's release fall 2011 which again highlights it will probably take a minimum of 2 years to create The Last of Us as most games take in the development life cycle such as Uncharted most notably, inFamous, Killzone, Resistance as well as Littlebigplanet . Therefore there is actually reasonable evidence to suggest The Last of Us will release fall 2013, and at a push - early 2013 at the very earliest. Hope this clarified the situation of Naughty Dog's division a bit more!

[QUOTE="Rootbeer95"]Given Naughty Dog has had a game development life cycle of two years per release for Uncharted, I wouldn't be surprised to see The Last of Us release fall 2013 as Uncharted 3 only released last fall (2011) which would mean if Naughty Dog were to release The Last of Us this fall (2012), the whole studio combined would only have had a year to develop the game which for a game of such quality, must require at least two years as Naughty Dog traditionally do between games. So don't be surprised if you soon hear of a 2013 release!MethodManFTW

Just when I thought this generation of gaming was beginning to dwindle and then this pops up. The Last of Us looks incredible, absolutely 100%. The premise and setting could not be in safer hands than Naught Dog either! For once we're going to see a post-apocalyptic, single-player thriller deliver where others have tried and failed *cough* dead Island *cough*

The difference between the two is that Uncharted 2 was a massive leap in every department from the original Uncharted where as Uncharted 3 failed to establish any form of progression in quality but don't get me wrong Uncharted 3 is still an equally as refined and polished game nonetheless.

I would definitely consider buying a PS3 now. It sounds like the PC will still be your primary gaming system so if you're going to be specific about games you buy and play, you will not be overwhelmed by the PS3 gaming library which is good because the tendency for newcomers is to start buying the majority of the PS3 library from the bottom up and those are the guys who should just concentrate on the PS4's release. In terms of JRPGs, I would look at the two Final Fantasies in XIII and XIII-2 as well as Demon's Souls, Dark Souls, Resonance of Fate, Star Ocean: The Last hope and Eternal Sonata. However if you were to look at solemnly JRPGs then your purchase would be a disservice to the extensive list of incredible PS3 exclusives such as God of War, Heavy Rain, infamous, Killzone, Resistance and Uncharted not to mention console exclusives like Red Dead: Redemption. Hope this helped.

Sony's conference seemed the best of the bunch but that's not saying a lot. All conferences seemed pretty lackluster. Assassin's Creed and Far Cry were both cool but I was hoping for a few more exclusives, after all it was Sony conference. Wonderbook definitely took up way too much time, at least about a fifth of the conference. But I couldn't have been any more impressed with Beyond and The Last of Us. God of war was pretty tiring but cool nonetheless. So overall for PS3, it was solid to see at least several exclusives however I was disappointed to see a lack of The Last Guardian. PS Vita concerned me though. I was hoping to see more than just lightweight first party games in Playstation Allstars and third party franchises in Assassin's creed and Call of Duty. There wasn't any evidence that PS Vita was receiving major first party triple A support but it's early days. I'm sure when a slimmer, cheaper PS Vita is released and more dedicated first party developers jump on board, PS Vita will pick up.
