[QUOTE="Adrian_Cloud"]MGS4, FFXIII, GT5, R&C, Resistance, KZ2,Stranglehold(PS3 version, yes alot of extras)...all those games couldn't be done the same there being developed now without Blu-ray. Isn't that appearant to you, or are all the devs just lying( some are 3rd party).Funkyhamster

Okay, here's the thing. For MGS4, I know that Kojima decided to use completely uncompressed sound - which could theoretically make a small difference in audio if you're an playing the game on a really nice speaker system, but really won't have much of an effect thanks to the efficient encoding algorithms for "HD sound" these days - and which takes up ridiculous amounts of space. For example, if you rip a CD using raw WAV encoding, it takes up 900MB of space - but you can easily reduce it to 40MB or less with WMA, AAC, or MP3...

As for Stranglehold, that's because it also has Hard Boiled in HD on the disc... of course it's going to take up as much space as a Blu-Ray movie... :P

For any other folks that have any type of speakers then you do notice when the speakers are producing sound at crappy 128 kbps versus .flac resolutions of 600 kbps or more.

And dropping that 700 MB of sound down to 40 MB gets results like:

Turn that OFF, ese.

You got blown drivers in your system?

even at 67% the wii is still probably the most played console. they certainly aren't playing the 360 or ps3. they are mostly playing the ds since they all have one.Ontain

Today we do simple math:

100 percent MINUS 67 percent(those that no longer play)= 33 percent.

33 percent are those that still recently play the wii console, pathetic.

Its interesting that 67 percent of those who own the Wii in Japan are not playing it despite the fact that there are more than one game for the console.

This begs the question of is the Wii the new Tickle Me Elmo where at first everyone wanted one and then two years later it was yawn, not interested.

http://www.gamasutra.com/php-bin/news_index.php?story=15872

Enterbrain president and prominent Japanese industry figure Hirokazu Hamamura has given his annual speech in Japan, in which he predicts that the current lull in Nintendo hardware and software sales is likely to be temporary - and that PlayStation 3 sales are also likely to increase with the release of the 40GB model.

Commenting on the recent slowing in demand for Wii hardware and software in Japan, Hamamura indicated that Enterbrain market research showed that 67 percent of current Wii owners in Japan had not used the console recently. He also suggested that the format was suffering from the lack of a follow-up hit to Wii Sports (which is not bundled with the console in Japan).

Then its time to accept that any port to the wii will be a substandard experience since Game Spot does NOT consider the Wii a Next-Gen platform as far as consideration of Next-Gen games go as far as including a good online experience, real Dolby Digital and next-gen visual presentation.

Subrosian:

The point is folks try and pretend that games on the wii are just as good as on the 360 and the PS3 when in actuality this is false.

Games on the wii are lower performing and the sound and visuals presentation is dated when compared to other home consoles from the same production for home consumer time frame. And its not some subjective opinion but hardware facts and limitations that are responsible.

The point being a lot of folks were led by the media to believe that a cheap solution will work just as good as a more expensive options when this is false. Cheap is cheap and you get what you pay for. And I am real tired of seeing wii games with a 9.0 or 9.5 score where the developer did not invest the same time or effort as a superior sounding game and superior looking game on another home console. This to me is an insult to a developer working hard to develop a good game versus a developer just going for stereo or left, right mono sound and both getting the same score.

Its an unfair scoring since anyone can tell when stereo or left, right mono is on versus dolby digital sound.

Gee in my book its still 2007(sarcasm).

How many of those have good online like 360 and PS3?

How many of those have besides good online come with Dolby Digital sound?

How many of those besides good online and good sound come with either 720p or better presentation?

Whats really interesting is the distinct lack of worthwhile games even taking into account the low dev costs since the "Nintendo Seal of Quality" is AWOL for the wii; and no, three games do not make a worthwhile games library for a console whose only focus is games.

What really has me wondering is how folks can keep defending the wii console that in my case serves as a wheelchock for the shop due to lack of games and wi-fit..........please, that is not a worthy game.

[QUOTE="RussellBurrows"]

Where did all the rabid Nintendo Loyalists go?

I notice that as soon as someone posts something that points to the wii being lower performing they(Nintendo Loyalists) all stop posting in that thread if they are unable to deflect or negate said points.

Strange.

This entire thread was pointless.

The 360, PS3, and Wii are all part of the seventh generation of consoles. I don't care what idiotic, ****-stroking term you want to give them, they're all fixed CPU / GPU devices, and as such they're all technically loaded with outdated hardware. Argue the semantics of "new" vs "next" gen all you like.

The ironic thing is - when someone points out the Wii is underpowered, it's okay, PS3 and 360 fanboys get behind it 100%. When someone puts out that the 360 is underpowered, it's always "damn hermits" - even if it's a Nintendo fan pointing it out. I'm not saying "outdated hardware is outdated hardware" - there's certainly a difference in performance between the Wii and the 360, however bashing "small and sleek" over "bulky and powerful" does not change that all three of these machines came out in the 7th generation of consoles.

Nintendo fans just don't waste their time with these threads - why should they? The PS2 took second place (to PC) last generation, and it had the second weakest hardware. Clearly, the system with the best hardware (PC) wins, and then second place (in terms of sales and AAAs) doesn't seem heavily dependent on hardware - other than reducing the cost of the console.

You mean as pointless as fanboy threads trying to make the wii seem comparable in specs by posting things like: Halo 3 on the wii?

And when the lack of Dolby Digital gets pointed out it always either gets a non response or an acusation of aural elitism and the same goes when the lack of either 720p or 1080p gets pointed out.

Its not a question of power its a question of features like proper media storage, Dolby Digital and 720p and 1080p missing from the wii redering a lower performer than the 360 and the PS3.

The games for the wii will always be gimped due to lacking features any home theater user expects.

I had a small hack to play the game without having to have the disc inserted; well I got banned and so far its been a no go as far as either getting my money back or my account back so Valve and Steam get a NO sale from me from now on.
