@nocoolnamejim it really doesn't have them stand out, it's a video game. A fantasy realm where anything can go. I think we as a society have began to want a centralized form of entertainment. Which eventually makes us want the same level of enjoyment from everything we see, or want to do. Honestly, one of the biggest mistakes game developers have made, is when they attempted to promote games as hollywood style movies.

Because then all elements of gameplay must mix well. Story has to blend with action, and every action must have a purpose. But, video games used to be different. Now, everyone wants them to make sense. Gaming has lost so much of what it was originally about, FUN!

@Eldeorn See, you understand! Games are made with a target audience, or consumer.

@shingui5 same could be said about any form of entertainment that has a distinct audience in mind. Entertainment is made for the audience intended. And not all video games are the same. There are various genre's. Just like all movies aren't the same. All books aren't the same, all tv shows aren't the same, etc. It just that big box titles get it worse because sales of them are more wide spread, and well known.

Let's use something that is widely known as a woman's hobby for example. Romance novels. Isn't it a tad ironic that if these novels shifted into the direction of a male oriented direction, many female readers would scream foul. But why? Why is the true question?

@shingui5 only certain women care about games, not all. More guys play, and developers make games to cater to the consumer they are trying to reach. Just like with any other product that's for sale.

@LOWJ000 only problem with that, is that so many others are attached to blu ray, and not just sony.

@Archaicc What it also doesn't show is how many of the 360 sales were replacement sales due to the dreaded Red Rings of Death. Even if people bought the PS3 for a blu ray player, it was a valid original sale, and accurate number displacement. And not a repurchase due to hardware failure. Showing a sales figure that consists of multiple resales is misleading. Fanboyism is when you take deliberate jabs at someone else for no apparent reason.
