I got a 60 GB PS3 used last year. I've barely had it for a full year. Back in February it started having problems where it wouldn't start up. The green light would come on and the fan would kick in for a second, but I wouldn't have picture. If I let it sit in that state for like 15 minutes and restarted it, it would boot up properly then. Now it won't even give me that. It just sits there with the green light doing nothing. The fan will randomly kick in after a while, but it won't do anything. I know it's not just a video problem because the controller isn't being recognized when I plug it in.

I called Sony, and I have to send it in to get repaired for $149. I asked them if the fee would be reduced if I had to send it in again, but the woman said it would still cost $149 if i send it in after the 90-day warranty from the repair. This is where my dilemma stems from. I really want to have my BC, but not if I have to drop loads of money to keep getting it fixed. I was considering just saving up for a new slim, but I wouldn't know what to do with my PS2 games. Has anybody had a decent experience recently with getting their console back from Sony after repairs? Is it worth sending it in? I heard one account of somebody having to send it in multiple times.

I've been having problems with starting up my PS3. If I try to turn it on from standby, the light goes from red to green, but the OS doesn't load or anything. The screen just stays black. I was considering calling up Sony for some tech support , but recently I left my PS3 on for awhile just because I was too lazy to turn it off. Then the fan started running. I let it run for awhile until i decided to just put it back on standby. Then, just for kicks, I turned it back on to see if it would boot up...it did. It booted up fine. I then got to the recovery menu and rebuilt the database. I then restarted the PS3, and then it started up. I then put it back on standby. An hour later i tried to turn it back on, and nothing happened. The red light changed to green, but nothing came up on the screen. I decided to let it run for awhile. Then i put it on standby and restarted it. It worked.I have no idea what's going on. The OS seems fine when it DOES boot up, so it seems like a hardware issue of some sort, but I'm not sure. I tried taking out the HDD and putting it back in, but that didn't do anything. Any ideas?

I tried the Sony forums, but they weren't much help. One guy told me to run a vacuum over the vents, but I'm at college vacuumless until May.

My PS3 is having problems starting up. More often than not, i'll hit the button on the PS3, and the light will turn from red to green. The fan will start up for a few seconds, and then it will die down. Nothing will then load up. The screen just stays black. If i press the disk tray eject button, it'll beep twice, but holding down the standby button does nothing. The only way to turn it off in this case is to turn off the power in the back. After repeating this a few times, it'll properly start up. Any ideas as to what is happening?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure those are for output, not input.

Have you tried calling up Sony? Something like this should be blatantly obvious that something went wrong, and they'll probably give back your dollar (unless its a legit fee you don't know about).

Your PS3 should be able to open the ports it needs by itself. I believe as long as you have your router set to allow PnP, then your PS2 can open any ports it needs.

That was kind of my rationale. I figured if i sold my PS3 (the one that stays at home with my brother while I'm at college), whoever got it wouldn't find anything wrong with it. I figured there'd be PS3's with nothing wrong with them.
