Supposedly the ones from Gamestop are guaranteed to work, but they don't come with a warranty either.

I'm thinking of going with refurbished consoles simply because they're cheaper, and I can try and go for one with BC. Has anybody had any experience with buying refurbished consoles? Any good sites that are LEGITIMATE? I've been looking at Gamstop, but the prices seem a little high for the consoles being refurbished, but what the hell do I know?

It wasn't that they didn't see a need for PS2 games. They just wanted to cut production costs for the PS3 while raising revenue from the PS2. It was a business move that helps them slightly and simply hurts the consumer's wallets when it comes to BC. On the other hand, it also helps the consumer in the fact that without BC, Sony can introduce another price cut sooner rather than later (whenever that may be). Without BC in the PS3, people without PS2's may be more inclined to buy a PS2.

I could have sworn Sony said that the PS3 would have a cycle of 10 years. Its been out for like 2 years. You figure they won't realease another console for AT LEAST 6 years. I think that's plenty of time for technology to advance for the next generation. Hell, developing another console in earnest isn't probably feasible for another six years. Preliminary research won't be done for a good long time.

Because he probably bought his at launch? I'm not convinced about that site of yours either. You created an account simply to post that website, which is probably your scam website.

That's why I figured it was fishy. The only way to contact that site is through e-mail, which, of course, they can always ignore. I doubt its a website I can trust.

I just want a relatively cheap system that has backwards compatibility. The systemsrus website has a relatively cheap 60GB system, but I'm not sure on how legit that website is. The 80GB MGS bundle seems ideal, but I'm not sure how long it will be available.

Has anybody else tried that website? It looks a little fishy, and the person who recommended it only has one post. Sorry to say that I'll need somebody else to confirm that the website is legit.
