[QUOTE="Hexagon_777"]My fear was that I wasn't competent enough to build one and that it would be too expensive, and yet I had a laptop and a PlayStation 3, which is ****ing stupid, aye? Well, needless to say, I got more than adequate help with choosing the parts, building it myself was easy, and the PlayStation 3 is being sold.Hexagon_777

I was pretty scared my first time building a computer as well. I must have saved like two years of allowance money, as well as what I could get begging neighbors for work :P

I believe I was 14 at the time of my first build, and $400 was the most money I think I had ever had at one point, so it was a lot to give up, but in the end it turned out to be insanely easy to build. I totally agree with the analogy people make that it's like building a lego set.

Choosing the parts is much harder due to all the choice one has! And my first time was...About a week ago. I am 22. :|

Well at least you have one, and I like that GoG was one of your first stops. It makes me think you keep an eye out for more than just the more well-known PC titles.

I know for me it's nearly a daily basis I'm surprised with something new I discover in the world of PC gaming.

This being the latest :P

And yesterday it was this

and a few days ago it was this

www.tribesascend.com

I imagine there will be something good in store for me tomorrow.

Disc changer, or having 3,000 titles just a click of a button away.

Hmmm, which would I rather have

I just found me a PC title that looks worthy of anticipating for this year!!!

Also.

This game franchise only ever came out for the xbox brand, how exactly is this "consoles" loosing to teh master race?

This is just continuation of the xbox360 loosing another one of it's core exclusives lowering the reason for a gaming pursuestto own one. There isn't much else than that. PS3 and wii still have a deep list of quality core exclusive

casharmy

Xbox 360 is losing an exclusive despite this title never being on the 360 in the first place?

There's some major spin there.

[QUOTE="jdc6305"]

It's a generic shooter why should we care?

tjoeb123

Which we have WAAYYYY too many of. It's just as bad as sequels.

I wouldn't say we have way too many FPS games in comparison to any other genre.

There's a ton of games out there from any genre. Anyone who doesn't see it isn't looking hard enough.

I know commercials are flashy, and all, and FPS games get some pretty flashy ones, but just because a game isn't advertised doesn't mean it isn't there.

You could literally find dozens upon dozens of games in just about every other genre from this generation alone.

If I was to buy one at launch:

  1. $300 max launch price
  2. Give me one game that shows the tablet has a good purpose, and I don't mean Wii Sports 2. I'd love one of Nintendo's classic franchises all purty'd up, and with great tablet integration. Pikmin 3 perhaps.
  3. Don't announce friend codes

If I was to buy one later in its life:

  1. Be exactly as the Wii is now. Have a fantastic selection of game experiences that aren't really possible to find elsewhere.

It really is price. Think of it like this. Consoles have some really really good exclusives. See games like Uncharted and Halo. A good PC costs about $600, then you need a wireless keyboard and monitor. Then you need an OS for another $100, and everything just doesn't work perfectly. PC gamers can say its just as easy to be a PC gamer as it is to be a console gamer, they can say it does so much more, that its easier, that its prettier, that the community is more mature, but it is not as streamlined. That is a fact. My laptop isn't capable of Crysis 2 or BF3, but it's been having driver issues lately which I can't explain and Steam was giving me errors as well. I have been a PS3 gamer for over 4 years and I have had only one instance where the console would not play a game wanted it too when it thought it was a leap year.

OT, it isn't cheap to buy that streamlined console and the PC. Its a down payment. Even if it saves you money in the end its hard to wait for it to come back. Right now, I don't have $600 I can just drop on my dream rig, and I certainly don't need one right now.

I'm going to assume your laptop is store-bought both meaning it came with pre-loaded software, and driver support and updates tends to require input from whichever brand made it

A custom-built PC has a lot less hassles from my experience.

Firstly you know 100% of software that's on your computer

and

Secondly when you get drivers, and updates you are getting them direct from the source. You don't have to go through any third parties. My brother had an issue like that with his Asus laptop. Apparently even though ati had graphics drivers available his laptop was not compatible with them because of Asus themselves. Therefore his laptop couldn't actually play a game properly.

The experience is much, much different when you have a custom-built computer. I think I've only encountered a single error once in the lifetime of this PC I have (which I bought in 2008), and that was fixed in 5 minutes.

The two laptops I have that I bought from a store? I hate using them tbh :P

Now, you're right... You're not going to get all of the best components crammed into a box and shipped to you for $600 bucks. But you can absolutely get a machine that solidly outperforms consoles on any game out (and can max out many) for that price, and enjoy all of the other benefits of PC gaming while the perfectionist in you selects, saves for, and eventually puchases sensible upgrades to give you that last bit of perofrmance muscle. And while you wait, your games will STILL be looking better than on any system you've ever owned before.

santoron

That's the most sensible approach which is what I was detailing earlier.

It's much better to work from the ground up than from the top down.

When you work from the ground up you get nearly every benefit for the minimum price, and as time goes on if you discover enhancements you want to make then you can do so with that cheap PC.

When you work from the top down you've essentially purchased a bunch of stuff that may prove to be incredibly unnecessary, and therefore wasted a big chunk of cash.

As I've stated in the past my PC cost $600, and this was three years ago btw. It WILL play every game out there very well, but there are a few choice games that won't max like Crysis. However, a "few choice games" doesn't even begin to compare to the other 500+ games from this generation that my PC plays perfectly.

I went into Crysis understanding that my computer might not be able to play it at max, and when it did not max it it didn't bother me in the slightest as when I finished the game that was it. I didn't care much to play through a second time.

Same goes for this 24" monitor I bought. It works perfectly for nearly every game, but I see the potential for a much better experience when using three monitors to play flight sims or racing sims. However, I'm not the biggest fan of those games as it is, so I remain with a single monitor.

So you would spend an extra $1000 to play five games better?

And a $600 pc is mediocre? How would you even know?

NoodleFighter

Nope, spend the extra money to max everything on the market at extremely high resolutions and never have to tinker with settings to find the perfect blend of performance to graphics. Also please, a $600 is not going to give you the visuals and performance that make Pc gaming such a superior option to consoles. I don't want to just beat consoles when I make a PC, I want to blow them away. No PC enthusiat here is going to try and tell me I can get a PC from scratch with everything including monitor, keyboard, mouse and copy of windows for $600. Get out of here with that shiit.

suck it :P

That PC being far better than mine both processor-wise, and graphic-wise. I also don't even have a wireless adapter in my computer.

Mine plays Crysis at med-high settings at around 40fps though, so that should be a bit better. However, I don't really care to play Crysis, so the performance in that one game doesn't phase me as I max out every other game I care to play.

Of course he'll need about $150 more to get a great monitor, keyboard, and mouse though.

[QUOTE="princeofshapeir"][QUOTE="AcidSoldner"]Instead of growing that beard, he should be making Half-Life 3.freedomfreak
maybe half-life 3 is the beard

I think the release date is shaved into the beard. It should be somewhere.

Every hair on his face is equal to the amount of weeks left till HL3 releases.
