Grown adults can do whatever they want. I don't think there is a clause in their contract forcing them to "crunch". Seriously, too much lazy acceptance and stigmatizing those who choose to work hard because they are passionate about what they do. This is not working in a clothes factory in India being locked inside, they are getting the chance to have a game at the launch of a console, a big name game being pushed by Microsoft. Most developers would love this opportunity.
Well I dunno, there may be no physical forcing as such, but when it comes to it in the gaming industry, it can be a matter of: work extra hours now, or lose your job. So yeah it gets pretty close to being forced.
Not at all. However, should shit hit the fan at Crytek and some people need to get laid off? Then possibly.
But Microsoft isn't forcing overtime.
