as the Wii is possibly seen as passing fad for much many people?

I don't get on this forum that much anymore, so if this topic has been done to death plz don't flame.

I think the Wii U looks like a really awesome concept... and I'm confident it is going to have some amazing games. In fact I plan on pre-ordering if there look to be any good launch titles :) however, I feel that Nintendo may cost themselves sales sticking with this name. True, the Wii had great success its first few years at launch, but now that sales have been cooling off and the Wii is seen as a fad of the past by many of the casual market.

Do you think it would be wise for Nintendo to come up with a completely new name, or will 'Wii-U' prove to be a huge success despite the name (or not for different reasons altogether)?

4-5 years of strong sales is considered a passing fad?

i said by casuals, not by everyone. lol - i think people misinterpret what i meant by "fad"

People are still saying the Wii is a fad?

Do people know what a fad is?

freedomfreak

i'm fairly confident many casuals think that... i know a couple people that bought a Wii just to play Wii Sports, and then got sick of it pretty soon after. to them it was a fad... to gamers who continued to buy games for their system, no.

Okay,so you're confident many gamers just played the Wii for Wii sports?I'm not saying you're way,but proof is kinda missing. It's been 5 years and people are still buying them. It's not a fad.

lol. okay. symantics?... alright, how about its not a fad, but it sold extremely well for a bit, and then sales died down... and the average wii owner played their system less than the average competing console owner (at least according to Nielsen ratings).... that was the point i was trying to make... seems like you are arguing just for the sake of arguing.

I'm not a big fan of the name but..[QUOTE="rasengan2552"]who cares, its just a name afterall ...

JuarN18

its not so much that the name bothers me..

but the point was whether the name could determine perception, thus sales.

unless you're a 12 year old girl, all those excuses for not owning a good gaming PC are laughable... except maybe the cost one.
