The official servers for BFME2 were shut down over a year ago, however, you need not worry. BFME2 is *very* popular on GameRanger.

I saw this in my local Mac store for $30, looks great. How is the campaign? Is there still a decent online community?

The Mac and PC versions of Rome: Total War are not compatible with each other, so the size of the PC online community will be irrelevant. The Mac RTW community is small, but slowly growing.

Hmm, I figured my signature would show for you. It's http://www.GameRanger.com I'm the developer. Yes, GameRanger bypasses the awful built-in GameSpy service so that everyone can connect without problems.

There are 8 SWAT4 games running in GameRanger right now as I type this. 3 of those are for the expansion, The Stetchkov Syndicate. Aside from that, it's a great game to play online coop with friends regardless of how many others are playing it.

You're doing this the hard way. There are 6 games of Rise of Nations going on in GameRanger right now as I type this. You'll find players much easier that way, and it doesn't have the security risks or configuration problems that Hamachi does.

I doubt they were as bad as Gears of war 2's problems at launch, can you believe that There were Lag issues on LAN connection seriously, LAG on LANAlphaJC
That's ironic given that that was a major complaint about their first FPS, Unreal 1.

Don't forget that the MacBook can dual-boot Windows natively and run all your PC games without having to buy the Mac versions of them.

Diablo II is quite popular online on GameRanger, and seems to be actual people that want to play it rather than bots and hacks. (In fact, even Diablo 1 still gets played regularly). Arcanum is played as well, but not as often, so you might need to be more patient with that one. NWN1 isn't supported yet.

Apparently the Borderlands matchmaking is still fairly broken. Most people have had much better luck playing it on GameRanger. It's trailed off a lot since it was released (typical of campaign style games), but there's still around a hundred games going at peak times of the day.
