Who else is prepared to get their asses kicked in Mahvel? I know I am because I suck at the game. Just remember people, that's so Pringles!

martialbullet

Where yo curly mustache at??? and I'm terrible >__>

I refuse to get in on the new lingo. So Pringles?

...that's stupid. Count me out. *quick nod*

Anyway, that's not why I came here, lol. Lately I've been putting a lot of thought into what needs to be changed in SFIV. I checked out a bunch of ideas from the shoryuken.com forums, and I don't know how I feel about a lot of those suggestions. To me, this game just needs to be tweaked in many small ways, rather than seeing huge overhauls to the entire system, character mechanics, and so on.

For example, I think that if Ken could Ultra out of his Shoryuken the way Ryu does - and I'm talking about the big cheesy-smile version, not the weaker, classic Shinryuken that usually comes out - that would be enough to get people playing him again. Not that there's a shortage of Ken players online, but the pros have virtually abandoned him in favor of the much safer, dare I say easier, Ryu.

As a matter of fact, I think that dependable, strong Ultras have everything to do with determining which characters get played. Consider the top characters if you're not sure what I mean. Ryu, Sagat, Rufus, Rog, and to some extent Akuma, Abel, and Viper - all of these characters have sure-fire, feasible ways to get their Ultras off. On top of that, their Ultras are considerably strong and don't get dinged as much by damage scaling as other characters, such as Sakura, who generally has to do a combo of 3 or more hits to guarantee her Ultra. I think it's a combination of the power of the Ultra, as well as how easy it is to land, that makes all the difference. Rose's Ultra is, arguably, very solid. But when you consider it does whiffle-ball-bat damage, it doesn't count for much.

Bah, I'm getting ranty. I guess I'm really scared that when SFIV gets updated, the devs are going to "fix" its current problems by simply replacing the current god-/high-tier characters with new ones (pray for Sagat's jewels... DC predicts full-on castration). As far as I can see, the characters themselves each only need the slightest little tweaks to balance them out. The game engine itself, well... suffice to say there are quirks in SFIV that I think we should just live with (like long, strong block strings, slow throws, etc.), and others that really need attention. Ever been thrown out of an EX move? Of course you have, and you probably female-dogged about it. Rightly so, too, because that's pure nonsense. It's supposed to be: attack>throws>block>attack. Currently, it's a bit of a crapshoot, and we don't like crapshoots.

/rant. Thoughts, anyone, before I submit my full list of suggested character tweaks and other changes?

Good. Now I'll know which products NOT to buy, as this in-game advertising usually pushes me to exactly that.

Also, let me just make up some numbers here to make a point: 90% of XBL Gold members will not like, even resent, this new advertising scheme. However, 100% of those individuals will still pay for XBL, in spite of not being happy with the service. Therefore, 100% of those people have no right to complain.

Really wanna curb it? Stop buying it. Till then, they'll treat us like sheep, and that's exactly what we deserve.

Expect some more SFIV match videos from me soon. I had a really good showing at Utah's pre-Evo battle. I've made leaps since the last videos I've shown you guys.

I still want a piece of your Akuma. :P

Mmmm... just don't let him pick which part of Akuma to give you. *nods*

Kreatzion, good games yesterday, as always. You said you were rusty with Chun, but honestly, I think that was the most solid Chun I've faced, even including back in the day when we first played. I just went on a roll online ****ing people UP with Sakura, and you were just NOT having it. I was even nailing my stuff against my good friend Delo who usually frustrates the life out of me, but I could barely get anything rolling against you. Hats off. Can't wait to play again. Hopefully I'll put on more than one mixup next time we face off, heh.

[QUOTE="ShenlongBo"]]Well man, I should be back on XBL in a couple weeks, maybe a month, max. I've been practicing like crazy lately, and I'd love to have another go at you, but with Sakura this time (from Ryu's teacher, to Ryu's student - how about that?). I've been hip to Sabre's trickery for a few weeks now, and I'm happy to say I'm really starting to get that stuff down. All that's left is to put it to the test...

...and what better sparring partner than that low-tier scrub Cammy? :P

martialbullet

Ohh, thems fightin' words!  :P Can't wait! I'll be workin' on Cammys focus cancel combos..... almost got the hang of it

I just finished up matches against two different guys on PSN. The first, who I mainly used Sakura against, had the following to say afterward:

"**** it, you win." And then he bailed.

The second guy I only played twice, and I used Sakura both times. He played Ryu for the first match, and didn't win a round. He switched to Akuma for the second match, and after I got two perfects, he just left.

So, I think my Sakura game is just about "there," if you know what I mean. Can't wait to see you online.

I was really impressed with Sanford's and Dentron's Cammy. Sanford's Cammy in particular destroyed Dan from Japan. The Spiral Arrow into Cannon Strike was amazing.:o

King9999

Yeah, I know, right? When I saw what he was doing, I was just like... :O

Gave me respect for the MvC2 players.

EDIT: Not that MvC2 players didn't deserve respect, it's just that I've never really liked the hyper-active antics of that game, and this was the first time I felt I really got to see how that style of gameplay can bring your fighting gaming up. It's not just that he did well with Cammy, it's that he did that stuff with Cammy that got my attention. It may be an erroneous correlation, but to me, it stands out.

It seems to be the underrated, "low tiers" that have come out into the spotlight this year. Sabre's Sakura, Sanford's Cammy.....

Damn I don't wanna face a dozen Cammys online now :( She's mine I tell you!! :x :P

martialbullet

Yeah, I know what you mean. I had just picked Sakura up, too, and I liked that she was a less popular character. It'll suck being in a sea of copy-cat Sakuras now... instead of being the only copy-cat, heh.

On the plus side, an increase in playtime for Sakura and Cammy might correlate to a reduction in playtime for the current ball hogs.

Well I say they can go back to their Kens and Sagats  But I'll admit, I've been trying out Sakura a bit as well >__>

I'm watching the recording and just finished watching Sabre vs. Valle...so ridiculous!:shock: Valle couldn't do anything but laugh.

Dude, I know. Sabre has been one of my new faves since I picked up Sakura.

I'm very happy to see that there is some activity in this room after that crazy Evo. I was really pulling for Sanford to knock Justin out and shut the whole thing down with Cammy :( Why isn't anybody talking about Sanford's Cammy? He just put that girl on the map, and he made me realize I might want to go ahead and pick up MvC2 after all. If there's a game out there that'll develop your twitch reflexes and your Yomi, MvC2 just might be it.

This was a crazy night. DC, I'm sorry you didn't go further, my bro. But I mean, look at the faces this year, you know? Sanford, Fubarduck, Choi, Ma, Gootecks... There were at least a dozen SF Elite there who got knocked out, and not all by each other!

I'm really concerned about the very small - infinitesimally small - Japanese showing this year. What gives? And no VF5? That's a problem, if you ask me. What happened? If it's fan support, then that's sad. If it's some technical thing, though, I'd love to know.

Whatever... this EVO just got me super-pumped. I've been training with Sakura lately, guys, so if any of you are on PSN, hit me up for some matches. I really feel like my game has been increased just by being so steeped in SF as of late.
