Ah, I see. So is he still in semi-finals for SFIV?

They've already gone down to top 8, and top 8 is all internationally-known SF elite. Again, I might be wrong, as I'm sort of half watching/half chatting, but... there you go.

Nah Leo, go ahead and change the thread title. There's still another day of Evo left.

I haven't seen Pat's matches. I don't know if he had them during the downtime or what.

Team Utah did not have a good day today. That's all I know. The HD Remix competition was indescribable. Pat rips my guts out in that game regularly (and easily), and, unless I don't have all the info, he got eliminated today.

aw, that's sad to hear :( So he was in Evo particularly for HD remix bracket?

Remix and SFIV.

They did crash, have been all day. My comp went down after Daigo's first match of his first set, which he lost :( No idea how it all went down now.

Bump.

Haha, jk. I just wanted to let anyone still interested know that while I still haven't gotten a replacement stick, I've been playing a lot of SFIV lately on my friend's PS3. So if any of you PS3 guys wanna get down before I have to return the system, let me know. Looking forward to rolling with a few of ya. Here's hoping we still have interest in the community.

EDIT: PSN ID = dj-mon25

I can vouch for the LEGO series of games on this one. My 5-year-old and 7-year-old each love playing Indie and Star Wars.

They also really love some of the XBLA games, like Feeding Frenzy, Pac-Man CE, and Omega Five. Omega Five is really good for young 'uns, because it has an infinite lives option that unlocks automatically after a certain amount play time has been logged in. My son, the 5-year-old, has "beaten" O5 multiple times because of that, and he's thrilled every time.

[QUOTE="games_soul"]

Hi everyone,

First I want to say, I love this thread and this game SOOOO much.

Now, I have been playing with the game pad for the whole time, and feel very comfortable with it, reached G2-D so far. But it seems though that fighting sticks are more recommended here in the thread, and I am curious why? In what way(s) would the fighting stick help me improve? I would love to know if possible.Thanks everyone for this amzing thread, and keep up the street fighting :D

DarkCatalyst

Initially, there would be a decline in playing ability while you adapt to the new controls, then you'd go back to where you were, and then gradually and steadily improve further past where you were on a gamepad. From there, your potential is limited only by how hard you're willing to work on learning the game and practicing your move/combo execution. When you get down to it, an arcade stick allows for faster and more precise input, as well as more streamlined access to the buttons. These are control aspects a gamepad can never get past no matter what. It also makes macro/combination buttons obsolete, which is very important because they are banned in tournament play whether you're using a pad or a stick.

To build on this, I'd like to use the old comparison I always use with my friends when they ask me why a stick is better than a pad (feminine hygiene, anyone? :P)

Think of it this way: would you want to pick up the keyboard you type with and just use your thumbs, or would you rather lay it down flat and use all your fingers to stroke the keys? It's kind of the same thing with a stick. It requires a different kind of discipline and, therefore, may feel quite a bit worse than "hunting and pecking," but once you get the hang of it, you will NOT be sorry, and you will NOT want to go back.

And just so we're being a bit more accurate, I want to add that there are some personal considerations to, uhhh... consider (*shrug*) when it comes to defining just how good you might or might not become at a given fighting game. For example, you just might have (or not have) the physiological "gear" built into your body to execute moves "on reaction" as quickly as the next guy (like Jeff Schaefer, who, as I understand it, had some of the quickest reflexes in all of fighting games), and that would inhibit your ability to reach that high of a peak. That's not to say that you couldn't compensate for that shortcoming some other way... nor that learning to use a stick is a waste of time ;)

[QUOTE="Metamania"]

Does anyone have a better strategy for the time attack and survival mode? Please DO NOT tell me that it is Zangief's Lariat. On some guys, it works, but on others, like C.Viper and Cammy, forget about it. It just does not work. This is the biggest load of HS I've had to go through. Why did Capcom have to make this extremely difficult, not to mention tedious as all hell? Again...does anyone have a better strategy than Zangief's Lariat attack?

Metamania

Zangief's Lariat attack really does work, if you play enough defense, but no I don't have any other advice.

I play enough defense, but the move itself won't work on a few, like Cammy, who will constantly spam spiral arrow over and over again. There is a way around it, which is crouching and spamming the jab button. You may have to block her ultra, but that's about it. As for C.Viper, same thing. It does not work at all.

AI Cammy, Bison, and Viper can be way annoying, but you can still crush their faces off with Gief. Against Cammy, slow down and only use Lariats to punish her Spinning Knuckle and Hooligan Flips. If you throw Lariats like a wildman, she'll keep using SA (as you've seen), so you have to just pace it. When you DO block SA, though, opt for a Green Hand punish, and get the SPD if possible. If not, no biggie. You turtle up like this, you'll beat AI Cammy, straight up.

If you just stay right on top of Viper, she shouldn't have an answer to Lariats. She's only a problem once she starts hopping around and being all squirrelly. Put your chest hairs in her face and do a spin cycle on her. A lot of the time she'll absorb the first hit, then eat the second for MASSIVE DAMAGE!!1
