Happy New Year! and some Music!

Hey guys, Happy New Year to all of you :) Have a nice day, a great year, and an amazing new decade!

Also, I just got Mass Effect from the sale on Steam (OMG IT'S ONLY $5!!!) Too bad it can't download now. Steam Servers are too busy or something like that.

Just to be more entertaining, here are my favorite bands and each with a link. Enjoy :)

Note: This is pretty much a random order

10. Alice in Chains - Damn, these guys were arguably more talented than Nirvana

9. Metallica - Just awesome

8. Coheed and Cambria - My favorite song on Rock Band

7. Iron Maiden - My favorite metal band! (Skip to 1:00 in the video)

6. The Ramones - Hey oh! Let's Go!

5. Green Day - Good luck beating this on expert drums in the upcoming Rock Band :P

4. Guns n' Roses - Burnout Paradise wins just for having this song in it

3. Led Zeppelin - Yay! I can finally play this on guitar :P

2. Red Hot Chili Peppers - Love em. (might want to boost up the volume a bit for this one)

1. Nirvana - Motorstorm is win just for having this :P

Happy New Year!

Last Blog Until Next Year: God of War III, GT5 Demos | Avatar | 2009 in Review

Hi guys and gals, this is my last blog of the year! Shocking, isn't it?

Well let's start off with some music!

Enjoy ;)

God of War III Demo:

I just got more excited! Seriously, this is all the combat that I love from God of War, God of War II, and Chains of Olympus with amazing graphics. Yes, I know graphics don't make a game, but this one does :P They add to the atmosphere, and IMO it looks better than Uncharted 2. The demo itself is about 10 to 15 minutes long, but it's 2.5gb download. I only got it because it came with the God of War Collection. So I guess it comes with that and if you buy District 9 on Blu Ray or pre-order God of War III.

In short, I love this demo and I think you'll love it too :)

Don't you just want to give him a big bear hug?

Gran Turismo 5 Time Trial Challenge:

I'll start off by saying that I'm not a fan of sim racers and the only ones I've played are GT3, Forza 2, and Forza 3.

That being said, I really enjoyed this demo. If you haven't downloaded it, go do that now. It's only about 250mb. There isn't a lot of content here, but I've put in a lot of time because it's so damn addicting.

There's only one car (Nissan 370z) and one track, but there's a stock version and a tuned version of the car. Anyway, you just try to set new times on the track. Damage is turned off for who knows what reason, and the track is pretty bland with 2D trees and people. But the car model makes up for this. Also, it's set to professional mode. :P You'll see. It's pretty sexy.

Ahh, look at the shine!

For those of you who have played it, my time is 1:45 and the online record is 1:36, so I guess I did pretty decent for someone who hasn't played that many sims. I played in 3rd person because the in-cockpit view was too hard for me to handle :P Also, I drive in manual, so that probably helped my time a bit.

You get the following options in the demo:

  • Automatic/Manual
  • Traction
  • Driving Live On/Off

I left the ideal driving line on :P Just because.

Avatar Review

I walked in to the theater in daylight when it was nice and sunny, not a cloud in sight. I walked out to a black night and rain pouring like it never rained before. Yes, it's that long.

The movie effects are stunning and it really is the prettiest movie ever made. No doubt about that. Pandora looks real, but it seems a bit generic since every life form on Earth has an alien version on Pandora. Dogs, people, rhyno's, birds, etc.

I saw it in 3D and I was stunned at how good the effects were. Absolutely amazing with things popping out at you and everything had nice depth to it. 3D is THE way to watch this movie. Cross that, not movie, experience. It really is an experience with all the things they throw out at you.

Hoever, there is one problem. Pretty simple actually. James Cameron thinks you, the viewer, are an idiot. Seriously. The story is as watered down as can be and it feels like something that belongs in a Disney movie. Okay, maybe not that bad, but it's definitely up there. Or should I say down there?

Overall, I'd rate this movie an 8.5/10 and without a doubt it's my favorite movie this year. Go see it now. in theaters. in 3D. Don't wait for DVD / Blu Ray. 3D is THE way to watch this movie.

I think they made them blue just to please psn8214 :P

2009 in Review:

Well, the years almost over. About 13.5 hours to go as I right this (San Francisco time :) ). I don't see big games releasing now, so I'll do my review of 2009 now since the year in gaming is pretty much over :P

It's been a fantastic year with so many games out there like Batman, Assassin's Creed II, Killzone 2, Uncharted 2, Forza 3, New Super Mario Bros. Wii, Demon's Souls, and way more! There's been no time to play everything but all the systems had some great games to play this year. I have to applaud the 360 for making a nice comeback in Q3 and 4. I mean, you have to admit, they didn't have squat (in terms of exclusives) for the first part. But whatever, a game is a game.

Here are my thoughts on all three console for the moment (no PC because there's really nothing much to dislike)

Wii:

Wii had a lot of great games this year. However, it didn't have many high profile games like Forza 3, Uncharted 2, etc. I mean, there are some great AA games, but nothing extremely OMG MUST HAVE for this year. (IMO at least).

That's for this year at least. Overall, it has some of the best games this gen like SMG, Brawl, MP3, Twilight Princess. It's a great system but really meant for online play. Great single player and local multiplayer games here.

Wii's 2009: 8.5/10

360:

The 360 has always had great games to play for its fanbase. There are exclusiive, multiplats, and exclusive downloadable content. It's a recipe for success. But Microsoft doesn't have as much first party support as Sony and Nintendo, so it gets hurt in the first party exclusive area. Not that much on is early this year, but 360 owners had a lot of games to catch up on from 2007 and 2008 like Halo 3, Gears of War 2, Fable II, and of course the exclusives from this year like Forza 3 and the GTA IV Expansions.

360's 2009: 8.5/10

PS3:

This thing was pretty much a paper weight when it launched. It had about 2 good exclusives by summer 2007; Resistance and Motorstorm. Slowly, it picked up pace. Then MGS4 dropped along with LBP in 2008. Since then, PS3 has had a lot of momentum, catching up to the 360. In just 2 years, there have been MGS4, LBP, Resistance 2, Killzone 2, Infamous, Demon's Souls, and Uncharted 2. Been great for the last 2 years and this year in particular.

PS3's 2009: 9/10

-------------------

I guesss that's all for this blog. I'll catch you next year ;)

Killzone 2 / S.T.A.L.K.E.R Shadow of Chernobyl / A Crack in Time - Review

Instead of a nostalgic song, I just decided to choose an epic-sounding song, so here we go:

Under Heaven Destruction - BlazBlue

Just 1 of the 25 epic songs in this OST

Killzone 2:

I just got back into Killzone 2 around yesterday. Today was a ton of fun playing with mitu123 and camilo777 :) Add me on PSn if you want to play!

S.T.A.L.K.E.R Shadow of Chernobyl

One of my best friends gifted this to me since it was $2 on steam (still is so go get it). I still haven't played it, but I'll try to sometime later tonight. I may also do a Let's Play of it just for the hell of it. Can someone who has played it tell me if it's scary or not? Just want to know so I can play with headphones in the dark :)

Ratchet and Clank: A Crack in Time - Review

Here's my review of Ratchet and Clank: A Crack in Time (copied from my review of it)

Presentation:

You're thrust into a somewhat epic/cartoony space adventure as you search the cosmos for Ratchet's lost buddy Clank. Characters are well known in the gaming world and each one plays a nice role.Your job is to collect Zoni, a mysterious creature which will aid you on your quest. The more you collect, the more you can upgrade your ship to go from planet to planet. It's like getting star bits in SMG or Eggs in Spyro 3.
Very smooth game and very little to no bugs in it. Atleast none that I found in my playthroughs.

Graphics:
Absolutely gorgeous! I wouldn't be surprised if this was named graphics king (on consoles). There are a ton of colors, nice explosions, and a lot of things going on on the screen without a single hitch in the framerate, AND it runs at 60fps. This is really like a Pixar movie. If I had to mark down the graphics, it would be because Insomniac stated that this will be their last game that runs at 60fps

10/10

--

Gameplay:
This is where A Crack in Time shines. You'll play through the game in two perspectives: As Ratchet, and as Clank. The Ratchet levels are 80% shooting with 20% platforming here and there and the Clank levels are about 60% Puzzle and 40% platforming. It's a nice mix and it works well to tell the story. As Ratchet, you can also go around in your ship. The ship gameplay isn't too great since I felt that the controls could have been a little better, but it's a nice way of going from planet to planet without breaking up the pace.

9/10

--

Sound:
There's a pirate radio is quite humorous, but I thought that it can get old fast. Voice acting is great and the weapons and other sound effects are top notch!

8.5/10

--

Replay Value:
The game ranges from about 9 to 14 hours depending on the difficulty and if you do everything. Once you're done, there are challenge arenas where you complete challenges like fighting a horde of enemies, etc. which gain you bonuses like armor upgrades. There are also Constructo Weapons which you can get parts and upgrade as you play through the game. These upgrades include changing the material that the gun shoots out, making it semi-auto vs. charging it up, etc. You can mod you're Constructo Pistol so that it has the exact same effect as the Plasma Pistol from Halo =)

Overall:
9.2/10

A Crack in Time is a wonderful game for people who like adventure games. It's got great characters, excellent gameplay, superb visuals, and a great story for a game that primarily targets the little ones :)

My game of the year (updated):

There were a ton of great games to play this year such as Resident Evil 5, Uncharted 2, Demon's Souls, Forza 3, Dragon Age Origins, Killzone 2, Assassin's Creed 2, and many more. It's really hard to choose a "best" game of 2009 I love a lot of these games, but if I had to, I'd narrow it down to two: Uncharted 2: Among Theives, and Demon's Souls. These two games seemed to stand out. Demon's Souls because of it's online component and challending gameplay, and Uncharted 2 due to it's excellent presentation, characters, storytelling and cinematic feel. It's hard to choose one, but I would probably choose Uncharted 2 because the game almost reaches perfection (IMO) with a few parts here and there that pull it back.

So overall, I'd give my GOTY 2009 to either Uncharted 2 or Demon's Souls. I'm leaning slightly toward Uncharted 2.

That's all for this blog. See ya next time :)

Answers to Questions / flower Review

Nostalgia Moment:

Bombing Mission - Final Fantasy VII

Answers to your Questions:

nintendoboy16: One of the worst films you EVER seen in your life?

Answer: I haven't seen that many movies, but the horrible ones that I can remember are Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, Street Fighter (2009), Dragon Ball (2009)

And I know you didn't start the question thing :P I just saw it on your page and decided to do the same thing :)

ImSwordMan: Whats your favorite game genre?

Answer: Hmm, probably Role Playing. Especially Japanese RPGs. They just seem like the perfect genre for me and I don't mind cliche stories that much  I like WRPGs too, but I prefer JRPGs over all

mitu123: What's your favorite game this gen?

Answer: This is really tough. This gen has been home to a ton of my favorite games such as Bioshock, Super Mario Galaxy, Fallout 3, Gears, Dragon Age, Demon's Souls, Metal Gear Solid 4, etc. But if I had to choose one, I would choose LittleBigPlanet. It's just a ton of fun to play. It throws out everything that other games try to achieve such as realism and epic-ness and just creates a fantastic experience which focuses on fun.

In short, I love LBP :P

SolidTy: What's the last three books you read, the last three movies you watched, and the last three games you played?

Answer: *bows down*

Books: A Separate Peace (awesome), Lord of the Flies (awesomesauce), To Kill and Mockingbird (awesomecakes) All for English cl@ss :P But I still enjoyed all of them :)
Movies: 2012 (meh), Surrogates (meh), Star Trek (awesome)
Games: Last 3 games I played were Grand Theft Auto IV (amazing, but overrated), Counter Strike (I suck like *** at it but it's still fun), and Demon's Souls (challenging and fun :) )

Flower:

This game won best independent game of 2009 at the VGAs and it deserves it. I think this game deserves more recognition that it gets since it's such a simple game with a simple purpose; to make you get that warm tingly feeling inside while relaxing you from a long day of school/work/etc.

The gameplay is as simple as it gets. You are a little flower bud and you press any button on your Sixaxis/DualShock 3 controller to apply wind. You use the Sixaxis controls to turn and change direction as you please, and your job is to explore a flower's dream by going around and pollinating a bunch of buds. As you pollinate more and more buds, they release smaller parts that follow your original bud. So by the end of a level, you will have an extremely long chain.

Graphics: 9/10

Sound: 10/10

Thanks for reading guys! Hope you guys go buy flower after my review :P Catch ya' later.

Ask Me Questions / Bad Company 2 beta / Braid Review

Nostalgia Moment:

Let's start off with something classic eh?

Super Mario 64 - Main Theme (Bob-omb Battlefield)

Ask me Questions:

Go the idea from nintendoboy16. So yeah, just ask me whatever questions. Please keep it clean and nothing too personal :P

Updates on me:

My friends keeps asking me to start playing TF2 and CS:Source with them. Not sure if I should since it gets pretty addicting. We'll see. What do you guys suggest? I'm currently not playing anything on my PC since I lost all my files and haven't gotten around to redownloading anything or reinstalling. I've currently been getting to games that I haven't finished yet, such as Grand Theft Auto IV, God of War, and Demon's Souls.

That's all that's new with me :)

Bad Company 2 Beta:

I got the beta when IGN first gave out Beta codes, but I somehow forgot to post my impressions of it. The game is awesome! It does everything right (well almost). For me, Battlefield is everything COD should have been. You have big maps, cl@ss based gameplay, squads, objective based, destruction (awesome), vehicles, and gameplay that takes some skill such as bullets dropping with gravity, un-scoping to do the bolt action on snipers, and everything seems balanced.

Braid Review:

My friend bought this on Steam a while ago, and I was at his house and we were just playing it for a LONG time. This game is so awesome. It feels like Super Mario Bros, with some twists and it's more puzzle oriented. Also there's a nice rewind feature if you got stuck somewhere. It reduces the challenge a bit, but you can't complain too much right?

The artstye is wonderful and the gameplay feels smooth. It's your typical "the princess is lost. I'm gonna go find her" type of thing. Don't be mistaken. This isn't a Mario ripoff, and it's worth all your money. Go buy this game. You won't regret it.

Sorry if you thought this review was too short. I just wanted to keep it short and sweet for my first one. My overall score for Braid is 9/10. Go buy it if you like platformers, puzzle games, or if you just have $10 and don't mind spending it on a fun game.

Conclusion:

That's all for this blog. Leave your comments below and tell me how you like the new format. Also, I'll start taking requests for reviews. If you want me to review a game, just tell me. Make sure that I have rated the game in my ratings section of my profile first (just so you know that I've played it).

New Blog Format/Windows 7/My Christmas Wishlist

Okay, so I just asked myself: Why would someone want to read my blog? It's just my random opinions right? Why not make it interesting? -- So I decided that I should change up my blog format to make it more interesting to you, the reader. From now on, here is the new format for my new blog posts, starting from my next one:

Nostalgia moment: this is where I'll post a youtube link to a video (most likely only a song) that will trigger nostalgia to anyone who has played the game that it's from.

Updates on me: this is where I'll give updates on myself such as what I'm playing, what's up with my personal life, etc.

Random Review: I'll try to fit in random reviews here and there, and I'll take requests too. (Just make sure it's a game I've rated in my ratings)

Blog Content: This is the section where the actual main content of the blog will go, such as a rant, my opinions on something, etc. That's all I've got now. I might add a poll section with a question and a few selected answers so you can answer in your comment if you feel like it.

--------------------

Anyway, here's the real blog:

--Windows 7--

Oh boy. Microsoft, Microsoft, Microsoft. First off, I'll say that the actual operating system works like a charm. It has the compatibility and performance of Windows XP and the eye candy of Vista. Everything is slick, and it really is "Your PC. Simplified".

However, the installation process was a *****. It says that I didn't need to backup my data (I couldn't anyway. My 400gb external was too full), because Windows 7 creates a backup folder with all your old files titled "Windows.Old". However, as you probably know, reliability isn't Microsoft's strong suit. After the installation was complete, I get a screen that says "upgrade unsuccessful" and my PC goes into an infinite reboot loop. I checked online, and tons of other people had the same problem. Many sites said it was the most common problem for Windows 7 installation (the new RROD? :P )

Anyway, I managed to find a fix for it and I had to do a clean install, which finally worked. The OS installed succesfully, and I just had to update my video card drivers for the Windows 7 theme effects to work. As expected, I lost ALL my files. It was rather tragic. So, let's take a moment of silence for SilverChimera's lost files*****************

Anyway, I actually like Windows 7. A lot. It's a very slick interface and everything seems easy to use. Good job Microsoft! If I had to score it, it would be from a 7.5 to an 8.5 out of 10.

--------------------

My Christmas wishlist... hmmm, I've bought a ton of games this year, and if I had to make a wishlist, it would probably have the following in it:

1. inFamous

2. Assassin's Creed 2

3. Batman: Arkham Asylum

4. 120gb+ PS3 Hard Drive

5. Line 6 Pod (to record my guitar audio digitally)

and that's all I can think of now. Have a nice day everyone, and Happy Holidays,

~SilverChimera
