Ok, I just watched the video and well, wow.
He sure seemed pretty ticked off at the game.
It was harsh but well within his perogitive as a reviewer. If Cnet would not defend it that sucks.

I get it now, I understand everything now that I know this video was pulled.
The rumors and everything makes more sense. I'm not ready to concide everything is true but I get it now.

It sounds like he got sacked and this is just some BS someone made up because of the big adds. Either way it's going to hurt GameSpot because of loss of adds from company's afraid what happening to Eidos right now, possibly due to no fault of theirs other then they received a bad review and bought some add space, will happen to them.

I would prefer to not believe this kind of rumor but sadly, I do.

I enjoy watching Jeff on On the Spot and when that did not come on today I knew something was up. It sucks that he will be gone.

i know this topic gets like 25 post a minute an all but... why hasn't this gotten stickied yet?Silenthps

Hummmmm lets see This is a thread for bashing GameSpot for firing one of their employees. The bashing is primarily for a reason that is pure rumor and not the firing itself that has not even been confirmed. You expect them to pin that thread to the top of a forum that they own?

I think some of the best AI (enemy and friend alike) I've heard is from Halo 3. Some seriously great stuff there. I also remember some of the conversations stormtroopers were having when you sneak up on them in Jedi Outcast, and those were hilarious too.

Some of the ones from Oblivion got really annoying, like the mudcrab one, and also "Why won't you DIE?," "Now is part where you fall down and bleed to death!" and many others.

WeaponXMerc

This is the one that I thought of first when thinking about good ones. I remember one in one conversation the Storm Troopers were talking about their new health plan. It was great.

The most annoying one that comes to mind right away is the Klingon in Star Trek Legacy, "today is a good day to die", one shot and repeat.

I think one effect of piracy is already very apparent to PC gamers. More and more we see titles that are not even considered for development on the PC.

Teufelhuhn

If you can somehow prove that sales of PC games have anything at all to do with piracy, you might have a point.

Of course I cant prove that. Why should I have to? I did not say that I think piracy has anything to do with sales of PC games. Even if I had said that, proving it would be irrelevant because some developers clearly think PC piracy is a direct risk their the sales on other (more profitable) platforms. As a result some developers might (and in my opinion do) choose to not produce a PC version at launch and, "More and more we see titles that are not even considered for development on the PC."

Australia, 2K Australia senior programmer PC team Martin Slater said while speaking about the Bioshock issue,

"When you're releasing simultaneously on the 360 and the PC, one of the things in the back of the publishers' minds and the people who want to make all the money is that we don't want to lose console sales to people ripping off the PC and the piracy issue. If they can get a cheap pirated version on PC, they may not buy the 360 SKU, which is probably your main SKU,".

I said I believe piracy has an impact on developers decisions about what platform to produce a game for. Specifically the decission to not make a PC version. It is only one factor.
I'm sorry you feel only that I, "might have point".

I would like to thank the moderators for leaving this topic open. Contrary to my expectations it has turned out to be a very rational debate providing many explanations of different points of view.

I think one effect of piracy is already very apparent to PC gamers. More and more we see titles that are not even considered for development on the PC. Good games will often be out for months on consoles and then ported to PC at a much later date if at all. I don't think anyone is going to argue that a ported game is a good thing. I can be done well but more often then not the opposite is true. On the other end of that as I have already mentioned, games that are developed for PC often include the requirement to go online using services such as Steam to verify authenticity and or include very intrusive if not down right dangerous copy protection software. Can you say StarForce?

I just cant agree with the argument that piracy boosts console sales. It certainly hurts the PC community. In addition, it gives developers an excuse to increase prices based on the hypothetical losses piracy will cause. I don't think piracy of console games is as widespread as manufactures would like us to believe. Frankly, I have never seen a pirated disc for any console available anywhere although I'm sure they exist. I'm sure they are available online too, but, since I have no desire to find one I would not even know where to begin to look. Certainly nobody is spamming me with offers for "imported" X-box games or tying to sell me a counterfeit copy of Mario Galaxy out of the trunk of their car behind GameStop. If I go to the mall downtown rest assured at least one person will have a shopping cart full of Gucci purses they would love to make me a deal on.

~edit~ don't you hate it when you have to edit your edit?

Yeah this is going to last long. ~sarcasm~

I'll tell you what it means for PC gamers like myself.
It means that more and more we are going to be forced to use piece of **** services like Steam that require you to install software you don't want and force you to go online every time you want to play your game to verify that you are actually the person that legally purchased it. You know what else is going to happen? Soon your going to have to pay for that service instead of just buying a game a playing it.

~edit~
Apologies the_mad_madm. I had left this window open and did not see that you essentially covered what I had to say at the end of your post.

That's too bad about your discs. Those old Dreamcast games were cool but I never had one of those so I don't know too much about them. Its nice to remember how far games have come over the past ten or fifteen years. The thing that always stands out to me is how difficult those old games really are especially the old arcade games. I got that 80 classic Atari games for PC and I find that time has washed away the fact that the quarter I put into that Missile Command machine never lasted more then a few minuets until after I had spent a lot of money getting good.

I actually still have my Genesis out and hook it up every month or two because I still enjoy playing a little Road Rash or Maximum Carnage now and then. I wonder how bad this stuff will look on my friends HD big screen LOL, I should take it over some time for a laugh.

I was digging out some Christmas junk in the garage today and much to my surprise, buried treasure YAY!! I found 9 Genesis games in the bottom of a box of dusty old box marked ornaments. Most of them deserve to remain in their cardboard coffin but a few little gems stuck out as worthy of coming out of retirement.

The first one is Sports Talk Football 93' Starring Joe Montana.
Ahh good times. Unfortunately the manual has not survived so we will have to see how that goes. Get this, on the back of the box one of the features listed is and I quote "12 Megs - The most intimidating football game ever to grace the Sega Genesis Gridiron" LMFAO!!! How funny is that.

Other notable games are Altered Beast, Street Fighter 2 and NHPA Hockey 93'

The last one is the utterly Craptacular and wickedly difficult Judge Dredd. Boy do I still remember exactly why this thing went to the garage over ten years ago. Many a controller suffered abuse and many an expletive was shouted as a result of playing this game. Still, for nostalgia's sake it will be a bit of fun and come on man, it's JUDGE DREDD.

Now I know all of this stuff is worth about $7.99 on e-bay but it's treasure to me. It's nice when you get little surprises like this, especially when it happens while your doing what basically amounts to chores.

Provided you have the DS lite, go to GameStop.com and type NINTENDO DS BATTERY in the search box.

They are 7.99 plus shipping or you can pick one up at most stores.
