I wouldn't bother.
Maybe this isn't helpful, but I'd personally suggest trying to get used to the mouse/keyboard. The PC version of Mass Effect 2 is tailored for that control scheme..I suspect the experience will not be very good with a controller.

I have th 360 version and plays flawlessly with a Joypad, if the dude is more comfortable with a joypad then the guy should use a joypad along with Xpadder as the other posters suggested, however i would be a little iffy abu that software how well does it emulate the controller can you still do the stick rotation mechanics or what o well what evs great game enjoy it.
It doesn't matter if you want to play with a gamepad for ME2 on PC. The entire control scheme was designed for the keyboard and mouse. Unless you want to actually control a mouse cursor for the menus and mini games, I would just recommend getting the 360 version.the only part where i would see problems is int he 360 version when you hit the bumper buttons it pauses he game to use your ablities and or switch weapons where the player would rotae the stick to select stuff whch worked great but i could see some sort of problem with that if you tried to use a gamepad, i see what you are saing.
