either way 64 still feels primitive compared to both brawl and melee

and what the hell.... a tournament match in the mushroon kingdom :?

poster

It's a friendly match and mushroom kingdom was only banned in Melee to my knowlege and as far as I know smash 64 is dead competitively.

what? The gameplay speed of brawl is definitely faster than the gameplay speed of the original for the n64. Not as fast as melee though.poster

WTF? I'm not going to argue the smash 64 is better than Brawl but to say it's slower?! Wow, Smash 64 is so fast paced competitive matches are 6 stock and while Brawl matches are 3 stock and Brawl matches still go into sudden death a load of times which you almost never see with Melee tourny matches.

In fact

10 stock smash 64 match.

3 stock Brawl match.

[QUOTE="Stabby2486"]Wtf? Brawl is the most shallow game in the series while Melee is the deepest.foxhound_fox

Brawl is more balanced and has most of the same fighting elements from Melee, with all the glitches taken out. The original is the shallowest since it isn't a fighting game in any sense.

Snake and Metaknight say hi. And in Melee you didn't always recover, you could combo, you didn't trip, it didn't have a broken shield, and these glitches you speak of took skill to learn and more to apply.

Considering that I personally have experienced beating my "expert" friends on occasion by outwitting them I would say the game doesn't actually require as much skill as you make it out to. A proper fighting game like Virtua Fighter takes months to master and no beginner could even think of taking on an expert and expect to survive.

Smash Bros. is designed to be easily accessible and isn't this "easy to learn, hard to master" game you make it out to be. If it's hard to master then no beginner could take on an expert and win.

The mechanics don't lend themselves to skill all that much. The game still isn't a full-fledged fighter and it shows.poster

If you going to judge Melee's depth based on who you've played go fight M2K in Melee then come back to me.

And that is exactly the reason why I despise it. I loved the original Smash Bros. on the N64 because it was a crazy, button-mashing, brawling game that was just about throwing crap at your friends and letting loose a storm of random moves to try and force them off the edge without having to think about what button combination does the shield dash.

With Melee they turned the series into a semi-brawler and semi-fighter... adding dodging, counters, and other fighting game elements. Now with Brawl it is pretty much a fighting game. It has lost all of what little charm it had left from Melee and replaced it with a Nintendo fighting game instead of a possible successor to the Powerstone series.

If I want to play a fighting game, I will play Virtua Fighter or Guilty Gear. Ironically, Brawl's name contradicts it's content.foxhound_fox

Wtf? Brawl is the most shallow game in the series while Melee is the deepest.

To anyone who has the game. Do the different tactics like popping out of spider holes and bayonet charging the Japanese AI use add to the gameplay?

Is it any less linear? And has the melee system been improved? I liked the idea of banzai charging Japanese soldiers until I realized the melee combat in Cod is shallow.

Yeah, if you signed up with your actual age and you're under 17 it wont allow you to download 'M' rated demos. Or is it under 18? I'm not really sure.

poster

It doesn't make sense how I can play M rated games but not download them. Oh well.

Tried to download the demo on XBL but for some reason I'm unable to download M rated demos despite having everything in the family settings allowed.

Even though it's not really a game but rather a mod for HL2, I'd say Battlegrounds 2. Due to the fact it's set in the revolutionary war most of the kills are done with bayonets, swords, and knives. It's absolutely hilarious, especially bayonet fights in underwater where there's no movement restrictions.
