He is known as "the game", "the cerebral assassin” and when he’s the champion, ”the king of kings”, but exactly how did he earn those names?
Triple H is one of the most controversial superstars in pro-wrestling history, not for the character he plays, but from his own character in true life. Some believe that HHH wouldn’t be where he is today if it wasn’t for a sheet of paper stating that he is the husband of Stephanie McMahon. But does being married to the boss’s daughter really account for all of his success?
Triple H has evolved from the preppy and stuck up Hunter Hearst Helmsley, to the hardcore degenerate of the “attitude era”, to what he is today, which is more of a mixture of both still a bit stuck up, but is known to get his hands dirty. How much credit does he actually deserve? Let’s look at it from both sides.
Well, one thing, HHH was a superstar on the rise before he came near the “billion dollar princess”, he even had the championship at least twice before there was even any rumors about him and her being serious about each other. Triple H also has something else that no McMahon can control these days anymore, and that’s the crowd, they continue to cheer this guy even though he is a heel. Date back to 2002 when he returned from his injury, he got one of the loudest ovations ever, it was like when Hogan returned.
But on the other hand, Triple H reached most of his success when he was dating/married to Stephanie; he won countless championships, big matches, and high profile storylines. He has been known to use his position of power to intimidate things into his favor. He has a lot of people who despise him, including the then known “new age outlaws”, which on TV seemed like great friends, but in actuality were far from it.
So, in the end of the debate, who is right? Is he lucky or good? Does he really deserve all the success he achieved, after looking at both sides completely with no bias, in my personal opinion ,I believe he’s “that damn good”, sure he may of gotten more from being a McMahon, but I believe he earned more than he demanded. People like Batista thank him for his guidance, so not everyone believes he’s so bad. In the end, its more of an opinion, so really you have to ask yourself, but here’s something to think about, if he really had so much “stroke”, why hasn’t he been champion for nearly a year now?
