For some years now, The Rock has been known as “the peoples champ”, he cocked his eyebrow towards the heavens and called it “the people’s eyebrow”. He names the most electrifying move in sports entertainment , atleast The King thinks so, as “the people’s elbow”. My point is, for the most part of The Rock successful career, he has been associated as being one with the people, and mostly everyone agreed, but now in 2006, does it still remain so?
The Rock , now a more skinnier and more happy hearted Rock, has more on his plate these days. People are now starting to question is he the “people champ” or “hollywood’s champ”, and rightfully so. Every since his debut in movies, he’s not been himself, it’s almost as if he forgot how he got where he is today, and that’s from the “people”. The Rock has had two good runs every since his first movie, when he won the undisputed championship in 2002, and when he returned as a heel in 2003. That was almost 3 years ago, it is said that The Rock wants to “silently retire”, which is not popular with most of the fans. Whenever Raw was in the state of California, The Rock almost everytime made an appearance, but even now that has stopped.
The Rock has had only one 1 on 1 match up in the last 3 years, and that’s sad, Rock had so much potential in this business. Triple H is known as the big ten time champion in this business, as impressive as that is, The Rock had seven championship after his last run, when Triple H only had five, just imagine where he would be today.
The Rock still has the opportunity to prove that he is, with out any shadow of a doubt, the “peoples champion”, all he have to do is ignore his ego and listen to “the millions”, by going one on one with Shawn Michaels at Wrestlemania. Although he says Michaels isn’t big enough of a star, there are many fans who would love to see it, and as the “people’s champ” isn’t that all that matters? Rock needs to set aside all differences and take on HBK in Chicago, because if he don’t , in my personal opinion, he will no longer be considered the “peoples champion”.
