@youre_a_sheep Everyone is different, and quite a few people approach things with that kind of mindset, and end up trivializing something that is as singular as this game. Sorry it didn't move you as much as it did me. I found it to be just as poignant as the Last of Us. There is a point at which the emotions that such a well crafted story evoke end up overcoming any flaws the game may have.

It is true of course that the game is a bit more linear than it should be, and there are control and frame-rate issues, I just feel that they are so insignificant that they don't detract from the experience.

@jellyman68 Well... I can't really say then whether you'd like it or not. My best friend still to this day thinks Ocarina of Time is the pinnacle of gaming, despite the fact that I feel like it has since been eclipsed by other more deeply moving games, The Last of Us being a great example of such a game. That's not to say that Ocarina of Time isn't an amazing game, it just has it's own place in time. At the point it came out it was sort of the defining game of that generation, much in the same way that the Last of Us is this generation's defining game.

My friend's main gripe with the game was that he couldn't identify with any of the characters, though he tends to have an alarming lack of empathy and rarely plays games that place such a heavy emphasis on character development, whereas I got so wrapped up in the two characters in the game because they are so complex and well written. He favors games like Ocarina of Time and Skyrim, where your character isn't really anyone and so you are able to be that character yourself. I favor games that hopefully have both a storyline AND characters that resonate, the kind of game that's not just enjoyable to play but something that really moves you and leaves a lasting impression on you not just from a gameplay standpoint, but from the feeling that the game evokes.

So are you like my friend or more like me? That may help you decide if you'll enjoy it.

@ArabrockermanX Not sure what part of it is a knock off of cable tv...

I personally found the story deeply moving, more so than most shows and movies that I've seen, simply for the fact that I felt like I was involved in it in some way, and you can't get that from movies/shows. Not everyone has the same opinion though, and I'm sorry that you didn't enjoy it the same way.

@nigelholden If it's done right it can be wonderful. The Deus Ex: Human Revolution Director's Cut is one of my best purchases ever. It was already an amazing game and the re-release perfects it. Much better than spending 60 bucks on some other title that might end up needing fixing in some way as well. =)

@vladric You should stick to including the word "opinion" or the phrase "my opinion" when you stick a pointless number score on something. Doesn't make it sound quite as stupid. =)

@IndremaLover Definitely should pick it up if you haven't played it already. It's pretty much one of the defining titles of this past generation. I enjoyed things like Skyrim and whatnot as much as the next person, but the Last of Us is the kind of game you'll still be thinking about many months after you've already finished it.

@noah364 Honestly I think it just boils down to the fact that simple people seem to need a simple explanation for something, so they find a pointless number score to be the only thing that really matters, and get all in a huff when someone else's opinion doesn't match their own.
