[QUOTE="delta3074"]with there fantastic 60gb bundles coming out this christmas, sony need to drop the price of the ps3 just to compete, i urge sony fans to put pressure on sony to drop the price of the ps3, otherwise sony risk landing in third place.Lionheart08

I wouldn't call Lego Batman and Kung Fu Panda fantastic. :?

...except that the 360 is regularly bundled with 1-2 games on top of that. PS3 needs some good NA bundles, why isn't there a LBP one in NA?

There are so many shooters with good multiplayer that no platform really needs a "killer". Seriously, why would someone care if they can't play Halo3 or Resistance 2 on their system? Go play CoD, or Far Cry, or Crysis, or TF, or BF, or Quake (whichever iteration in those respective series)...

For example, since I don't have a PS3 (yet), I won't get to play R2's multiplayer. While it looks great, it's not like I won't be getting my co-op fix from somewhere else (L4D, Halo, Gears 2,...) or big-game deathmatch (BF, Quake Wars, Unreal Tournament...), or team play (TF2, CoD4, ...). The exact same can be said for someone that doesn't own a 360, or a PC.

Did they say how long the game was? In a few podcasts this week I heard people snickering about how short it was...it's a full-priced game, so yeah it does matter to me.

If you have the $ and know you will enjoy the games, why not?

But I have to agree that spending $400 is a steep initial cost just for 2-3 games...I usually wait until the system has a good handfull of old cheap hits and a bunch of new good games.

On Canadian news channels, they have consistently been reporting that this 15-year old was addicted to CoD4 specifically (online play). Funny thing is, when I go look at the ESRB rating, it's "M" for mature 17+.

While I agree that games can be addicting and sometimes not all that great for one's physical, social or mental health...I'll chalk this one up as parents who let the TV babysit their child, or just chose to be ignorant as to what their child was doing on his game system.

I...can't...wait....

I haven't preordered yet, mostly because I'm not sure which version I'll get initially. (I'll probably pick up the other once the price drops). I'll let the demo help me with that initial choice. Mods or split-screen? Steam friends or Live friends?

The 11th can't come soon enough....

By the way, how long does it usually take to get through the demo? Is is a full chapter, movie, ...?

I totally disagree. This game was one of the first to literally let you play it any way you wanted to-Sniper99-

(You mean the first in the MGS series. There are plenty of games that let you play how you want...)

What the GS review doesn't tell you (and the same can be said for the GTA4 review) is that if you didn't like the prior games, chances are you won't like the latest installment. Personally, it is the fatal flaw in both 10/10 scores, since I've tired of both series a couple of games back.

That said, there's no denying that it's a great game. It's got the graphics, the production value, the improved gameplay (yeah, it used to be worse), and the fanservice. It's just not for everyone.

I'm really stupid. I went out and bought WoW today, because a couple of my co-workers have been trying to get me to play it for months. So, I figured, fine. It comes with a free 30 day trial, I can play it for a month and if I still think its dumb I'll just throw it in my "games I keep to show off but never play anymore" collection. Needless to say, I didn't expect having to buy a month of gametime just to get my "free 30 days". Now, I'll have to wait until my next paycheck to actually play it (because I refuse to use my credit card). I should have known. I hate the idea of "pay to play" games (which is one of the things I hate most about X-Box also).

So, we'll see next week if its worth it. So far it looks totally over hyped and I still think I should of bought Guild Wars instead.mynameisderek85

The only stupid thing you did was not reading how the registration works. When you first register, you need to put in your credit card info, but you are not charged for a month's subscription right off the bat. You are only charged at the end of the first free month.

So, basically, put in your credit card info, register, then go to your account and cancel the subscription. You still have your free sub to play, and don't have to be worried about being charged at the end of the month.

And to the TC, just download the free trial (7 days?) and see if you like the game. Don't believe all the drama queens that say it ruins lives, those people have issues to begin with. I had no problem canceling my sub once I got bored with it.

See the problem with Doom 3 was that it was a tech demo and the same year it came out there were 2 other games that either matched it or surpasses it technically.

2004 brought Doom 3 (Id Tech 4), Far Cry (CryEngine) , and Half Life 2 (Source)

3 engines that were powerhouses for their time. The only thing was that Far Cry and HL2 didn't feel like tech demos.

I don't like D3 at all, but don't blame it for the graphics craze.

I agree, although Far Cry definitely had the most impact on me since it came out months before Doom3 or HL2. But to be fair, I found HL2 to have a lot of boring/dumb physics puzzles, giving it a tech demo feeling as well.

Doom 3 is responsible for killing a huge part of the gaming community by making publishers take the cheap road down graphics lane.

There is a reason why Counterstrike 1 is better then Source, even though it's painful to your eyes. It's cause the gameplay is flawless.

But Doom 3? The gameplay was terrible, the pistol sounded like a dartgun and you had to switch hands for your flashlight. Then these horrible games like Lair followed in Doom 3's footsteps, and more bad games with good graphics, like Quake 4, and Gears of War.

Gears of War was different though, they used a different art direction with skilled artists. So..that doesn't count, plus the gameplay wasn't bad.

But you get my point

monoxbon

You'd be right... if you weren't ignoring the decade before Doom 3 when pretty but dumb games still came out every so often. For example, play the original Unreal and get back to me.

Oh, and Doom 3 was great (and, looking at the reviews, many people agree). Hating on Doom 3 is soooo 2004.
