Post-E3 Impressions and the Regret Factor

Microsoft

Conference: I bet you've heard what people said... there was just too much Kinect and some awkward moments.

Games: Umm...Modern Warfare 3? I guess I might get one game in the series someday…

Hardware: None.

I don't own an Xbox so there were no exciting announcements for me on the Microsoft side. The most important thing is there was no Xbox exclusives big enough to make me regret getting the PS3 instead :P

Sony

Conference: Mostly about the Vita. Move demos were...I have no reason to get the Move. There were some decent, some not very good, and some really great PS3 games (based on their trailers). You would have loved the conference if you were planning on getting the Vita.

Games: Sly Cooper game...is the only good looking game I remember right now...Wait! There were some other good ones, but I just can't remember their names...

Hardware: The PS Vita. I've said this a thousand times...it's too much like a PS3 for its own good. The touch screen is the thing that sets it apart the most (remember who did it first!:o). If you want to build on your PS3's features, if you happen to go outside a lot (then you probably already have a portable...), or if you don't have a PSP, then getting the Vita is a thing to consider. I'm kind of glad this is coming out. It will push Nintendo to add more games on the 3DS.

Nintendo

Conference: Great! There were lots of awesome announcements. The good 3DS games are just around the corner now! That's good because I'm getting tired of Street Fighter…

Games: Zelda, another Zelda, Mario 3DS, a FREE Zelda, Luigi's Mansion 2, and Super Smash Bros were the top announcements for me. A lot of the announced games look great, but I'm not sure about the likes of Mario Kart 3DS. How many remakes does it need? Although.... I have both Mario Kart DS and Wii, and I don't regret getting either of them. Regret...more on that below.

Hardware: The moment of truth! The Wii U (the name hasn't caught on for me). To tell you the truth...I'm not sure what to say. I'll just go ahead and point on some concerns...namely...will you be able to hold it just as you hold a c1assic controller (as in C1assic Controller Pro, 360, and PS3 controllers)? Just as comfortable? Functional? It all looks weird...but you know what? People (including myself) said that the idea of two screens on one handheld was just ridiculous...

Let's hope all goes well with the Wii U.

When rating/reviewing a game. I think the most important factor is regret.
If you could go back in time, just before you bought that game...
Would you or would you not buy it?

OST of the Week:

The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess - Hyrule Field

My Purchase Success, Identity Loss, and Metal Slimes (Pre-E3 Impressions)

EDIT: I misread something I DON'T get the Welcome Back offer...

Let me start with the identity loss.
No, I didn't lose any ID card or anything...
I'm talking about the PS Vita AKA the NGP and the Wii 2.
The Vita can no doubt function as a PS3 controller.
The Wii 2 will (now) no doubt have a touch screen controller.
Do you see what's happening here?
Ther portables are becoming home consoles and vice-versa!
Have you seen the Konami Pre-E3 Show?
So "transfarring" is (or might) going to be avaliable for all PS3/Vita games,
and the Wii 2 controller can double as a handheld.
Now I'm not saying the ideas are bad...
but I like the fact that the home and portable consoles are each unique...
It remainds me of Pop culture vs. Folk culture, and how folk culture is rare nowadays.
It could be for the better though.
...
I just hope the game companies don't expect us to buy two (portable and home) copies of every game.

Side note:
It seems that this year, and next year too, is all about Vita. This is good because that means the PS4 won't be coming too soon.

One part of the Konami video I was excited about was the Metal Gear Solid HD Collection announcement.
That complements my Metal Gear Solid 4 perfectly! :D
Although I was going to buy Snake Eater, which is part of the collection, on the 3DS.
I still kind of want itfor the 3DS, but the collection is the better offer (3 in 1).

The Pre-E3 thing also reconfirmed my unregretful PS3 purchase.
To top it off I qualify for the PSNWelcome Back gift!
So I get the 3 games I bought plus 2 more free AND 2 for the PSP.
There's a bright side to everything :)
I'm going to download Killzone and LBP PSP...
yes I'm getting both...console and portable versions...:?
Well should I take one of the other two games?

...Anyway let's just hope my PS3 doesn't get delayed so I can download them before the offer expires...

One last thing...
I made it to level 20, so I'm now a Metal Slime!

...actually I'm still at level 19 and 94% through...
but I will be level20 by the time you read this.

Region Bias, Game Progress, and the Last of the Laytons

First off...

PS3 Wins!

I bought it online. Why online?
If you live in Australia, Europe, or pretty much any place
else other than North America or Japan, then you must be
familiar with PAL, and how it's incompatible with NTSC.
Not only are the games incompatible, but unless you have
a multiplatform television set, it won't even work with the TV.
Since I buy most games from the US anyway (which is NTSC),
and since the TV I have here is multiplatform, I decided to get
the NTSC model. I hate how it's region locked like that...why
can't they make the next-gen consoles region-free?
Why can't they make ALL next-gen TVs multiplatform?
Will it always be like this?!
There's also the part about the charger (110v or 220v),
but that all depends on how your home's
electrical wires are set up,
and it can be fixed with a simple adapter.

It's ridiculous really...

I got the PS3 Slim, 320 GB.
I wasn't sure how many GB I would need
but the price of 250 GB was about the same so...
I also got:

Portal 2

Duh. This is number one on my wish list.
I'm looking forward to playing it.

Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots

This is one of the few games that got a perfect 10 score.
I haven't played a stealth game since Splinter Cell on
the PS2 (yes I had a PS2...I STILL have a PS2)
It looks pretty good.

LittleBigPlanet: Game of the Year Edition Bundle

This one comes with an extra controller.
I've never played LBP so this is the time to start.
It was also the only controller-game bundle that
wasn't sold out, but the only one I probably would
have gotten. I could get LBP from PSN's 'Welcome Back'
thing, but you have to have an account that
was created BEFORE the site went down...
(which is unfair because the PS Store is STILL down...)
If they change their mind about the BEFORE,
I guess I'll get inFamous and some other game.

Don't criticize my purchase, please!
It's already paid for and I'm not in the mood to regret.

Anyway, it all won't arrive until two (maybe three) weeks.

Until the PS3 arrives,
I'm trying to beat all games I have on the Wii.
Right now, the games that I didn't beat are:

Donkey Kong Country Returns

I'm on (what I assume is) the last world,
which is world 8 (volcano world, a cla$$ic end)

Super Mario All-Stars: Limited Edition

I'm on World 5 in original SMB
Level 8-3 on The Lost Levels
On world 3 in SMB 2 (the one with the turnips)
Completed SMB 3 :)

Monster Hunter Tri

This one...I have trouble getting into.
I only did the first few quests,
and I'm not encouraged to do anymore.
Every time I play I waste more time than I gain progress.
It just feels kind of slow,
I wish I could just skip ahead to the big boss fights.

I beat ALL my DS games :D,
with the last of them being Plants vs. Zombies.

Hey! Maybe I should review it...
the PC version is the most popular,
but I don't think a lot of DS players have played it.
I actually haven't even picked a game to review...
I've been busy with school and trying to
beat the aforementioned Wii games.
Know I even regret writing any of my older reviews.
I feel like I wrote it when I was 6,
because it's so...just not well written.
I might be stubborn and rewrite my older reviews first.
…Remember when I said I was going to do a speed run
of my own custom-made Super Mario World levels?
I actually worked on creating them for a while, but then...
Well, have you ever drawn a picture that you
really loved at first, but then you start to discover
a few errors and you don't think it's very good anymore?
That's basi...

Long story short: I deleted the levels I made, and ended the project.

Also, I have an update on my progress on Pokémon Black.
My team failed...an epic fail.
The problem with the Battle Subway (AND Battle Tower)
is that along with creating an effective strategy,
the CPU player tends to pull a few strings
and have the luck factor in its favor.
I fought a Froslass with Brightpowder
(which lower's my Pokémon's accuracy), so the attacks just kept missing.
The CPU also kept using Taunt
(which lets me only use attacking/damaging moves)
and I couldn't set up Substitute or anything.
Not to mention the fact that Breloom only has two attacking moves
and Froslass resists one, and is even completely immune to the other.
When I finally beat it, all I had was Porygon-Z,
but the opponent had Quick Claw (which lets you attack first sometimes)
and Porygon-Z went down as fast as it came out.

Here's the team if you missed it

Well, the Professor Layton weekly downlable puzzles are over…
with the last puzzle being earlier this month.
It sucks, though, that Layton 3DS is not out yet (outside of Japan).
I beat all three of the DS Professor Layton games 100%
(all main, bonus, and weekly puzzles complete, all content unlocked).

Wow, big blog!

OST of the Week:

Super Mario Bros 3 - Title Theme

I love this one.
Sometimes I stay on the title screen for a while just to listen to it.

Nnnaghgh!!! Gah!

Wii 2, coming end of 2012.
PS4, in development.
Xbox whatever, in development.

I'm ready to buy the Xbox or PS3 but...
GAAAH!
Help me out people...any advice?
Is it worthbuyingeither for $400+ dollars (console, extra controller, game) if a new one is right around the corner?
I suppose it's still a long ways to go until the Wii 2 will be released in late 2012, and if the PS4 and Xbox 720 is still in development, we might not hear from them until late 2013 or even 2014...and even then it's not like they will abolish the previous console right away. The DS and it's games are still selling despite the 3DS, and I hear that PS2 games are still fairly popular.

What to do...
Which one do you think will be released first next Xbox or PS4?

Video Parade

Heart attack on a bun :o
[video=J3UzlWCq5bMIuzTY]
Spongebob's new episodes are...plainly bad. At least we still have the older ones to enjoy... Remember when Nick used to be Nickelodeon?

When will this game be released!!!
[video=6266142]
It looks awesome.

Myspeed run of Target Smash Level 3 in Brawl:
[video=K3xgwzbw5bMIuzTa]
Under 20 seconds to get the trophy :D
Sorry, I have no better way to record gameplay...

...just three videos. Enjoy.

OST of the Week:

Sonic the Hedgehog 2: Chemical Plant Zone

Change

Times are changing.
Neither better nor worse...just not the same.

My glass is half-empty right now.

The Battle Subway and PS3 vs. Xbox 360

EDIT: I fixed Breloom's moveset. I said Bullet Seed, but I meant Seed Bomb.

Well, I did promise a review of Pokemon Black/White and a review of the 3DS...

We all say things we don't mean...

Anyway,
I won't go in-depth on the 3DS.

The bottom line:

Seriously, unless you see a game that you really want,
I don't recommend that you buy it just yet.
The 3DS games list is quickly growing and it looks like a lot of the
better games will be available by the end of the year.
(I'm personally waiting for June 19th when I'll get Ocarina of Time)

The biggest issue people are complaining about is the battery.
I actually didn't mind it that much. I have it on the "Power-Save"
feature (and I don't really notice a difference in performance), have the volume
about halfway up, wireless on, and 3D slider constantly going up and down
(I like to alternate). The battery IS noticeably less, but it lasts me all morning
(I keep it in sleep mode when I don't use it and not even off.)
and by the time it turns red, I'm at home and can easily charge it while playing.
The charge dock is handy. Just put the 3DS there whenever you're not using it.

As for Pokemon Black and White:

If you're a regular Pokemon fan, then get it.
If you've never played Pokemon, then get it!!!
If you've played a previous title in the series but weren't very impressed,
then you probably won't like this one.

Speaking of Pokemon Black...
I already beat the game, went back and beat the Elite Four the second time,
completed the National Dex
(this was a lot easier this time since I transferred the pokemon from
SoulSilver, which had a completed pokedex too),
and I got a lot of other stuff completed too.

The only thing I have left is the Battle Subway.
This was my biggest problem in SoulSilver (Battle Tower, same thing).
In HGSS, to get the 5th star on your trainer card,
you must get a 100 battle win streak
I got it (not easy, trust me)
I wish Nintendo would add a trophy system, just so I can show that off.

Battle Tower Interior

Now I face the Battle Subway.
This time I need to get a 49 battle win streak in both the
"Super" Single and "Super" Double modes to get my star on the trainer card.
This may seem a lot easier to do, but the AI in this game is more advanced.
Also, more Pokemon and Dream World abilities make prediction a lot harder.

This is the (failing) team I'm currently using,
it's the same team I beat the battle tower with:

Gengar

File:094Gengar.png

Nature: Timid (+Speed,-Attack)
Item: Life Orb
EVs: 252 Sp. Attack, 252 Speed, 6 HP
Moves:
-Shadow Ball
-Focus Blast
-Thunderbolt
-Energy Ball

Gengar has awesome speed, and great Sp. Attack, so the only thing that I have
to worry about is Sucker Punch which has priority and hits first (also happens to
be a Dark-type move, which Gengar is weak to).

Breloom

File:286Breloom.png

Nature: Adamant (+Attack,-Sp. Attack)
Ability: Poison Heal
Item: Toxic Orb
EVs: 252 Attack, 252 Speed, 6 HP
Moves:
-Spore
-Substitute
-Focus Punch
-Seed Bomb

Spore puts them to sleep. I set up a substitute while they nap,
then I guarantee a Focus Punch, or, if it resists it, Seed Bomb.

Porygon-Z

File:474Porygon-Z.png

Nature: Modest (+Sp. Attack,-Attack)
Ability: Adaptability
Item: Choice Scarf
EVs: 252 Sp. Attack, 252 Speed, 6 HP
Moves:
-Tri Attack
-Ice Beam
-Dark Pulse
-Hidden Power (Fighting)

Breloom is so good that I don't see Porygon-Z as often.
Usually Tri Attack is sufficient. Dark Pulse gets immune ghosts,
and Hidden Power gets Rocks and Steels that resist Tri Attack.

Wish me luck, and please rate my team.
If you think I should add/remove a pokemon (which I will) please say so.
Obviously, I'm considering new 5th gen pokemon.
I might need to make a completely different team for the double battles.
Also, it would be helpful if you tell me about some movesets you were successful with.

Recently, I've been babysitting my little cousin for about $1 an hour.
So far I made about $25.
I've been thinking about saving up and buying (yet another) new console.
Lately, I found that a lot of the games that I thought about getting (Portal 2)
are for only three consoles:
PC, X360, PS3.

I do own a laptop, which is fairly new and still runs pretty fast,
but it's not designed for gaming.
I don't plan on buying a desktop or any kind of gaming computer (I don't need one!)
So, if I was going to save up for something, it would either be a PS3 or Xbox.
Here starts another PS3 vs. X360 discussion.
(I'm not accounting for the PSN network outage)

I'll start with the positives:

PS3:
-Blu-Ray
-Familiar with the controller (I own a PS2)
-Some of my friends own a PS3 (so they can bring their controllers and we can all play)
-Free online play

X360:
-More exclusive games (at least it feels that way to me)
-Xbox Live Arcade seems better than PSN Store

Negatives:

PS3:
-Might miss out on some Xbox exclusives (Super Meat Boy!)

X360:
-Pay to play online :(

So what do you think?
The pros and cons are the things that matter to ME, by the way.
If you own a PS3 or Xbox tell me what the pros and cons are for you.
If I buy either console it would have to be soon, because
there's also the question of buying the systems so late, since a new one
might be just be around the corner. I don't just mean Wii 2, but also PS4 and X720.
I probably will get the Wii 2, but not until early/mid-2013 (long way to go).

Finally,
OST of the Week:
Pokemon Black/White-Ending Theme

(I think someone else posted the above OST on their blog first.
I just wanted to say that I was already going to put that OST anyway :P)

Commenter's guide:
-Buying the 3DS or not
-Battle Subway/Tower team
-PS3 vs. X360

NEW! Hater

Well, I'm now officially "Popular."

Popular

I've decided that whatever review I write next, it will be of a game that has been least reviewed.
It makes sense, right? Why review Pokemon Black/White, when I can review games like...you know...those games...

I'll also probably make a Top 10 List soon.

Also, if you missed my last blog, I posted my 3DS code:

1289-8236-4182

Post your code or send me a PM and I'll add you.

(Wario doesn't get the "No Glasses" part)

Also, here's my Pokemon Black friend code:

3181-6250-9357

Whenever you see my status as "Online" on Gamespot,
feel free to PM me with your code and I'll battle (and beat) you.

Finally, I'll try to create my own avatar and banner for my blog.
I'm pretty good with computers and whatnot, but I'm not very...artistic, I guess.

Kirby, here, is just a temp:

Super-Poke-Bros

I never posted my opinion of the new site change.
It does look a little cooler.
And it is easier to find the page that your looking for.
I did notice that it took a little longer to load, though (mostly the homepage)
I just wish they would remove that dang "NEW!" off of "My Achievements."
We also have the "NEW!" GameMarket to worry about.

A side-note:
One thing that I HATED about Pokemon Black when I played it was the fact that the Game Sync setting on the main menu kept flashing "NEW" every single time I turn the game on. It stayed like that untilPokemon Global Link went up.I hate that! Seriously, what if I don't have WiFi? Then I would never be able to get rid of it.

(Rant) 3DS Friend Code (Rant)

Long story short:

I wrote a BIG blog, I clicked on my username by accident, it took me to my profile page.
I pressed the back button and it was all gone.

I also posted my 3DS code:

1289-8236-4182

Post yours and I'll add you.
I usually only add people I know personally,
but I don't know anybody with a 3DS.
I might delete you from my friend list later, so...

OST of the Week:

DKCR-Game Over

Picture for a colorful blog (rant):

Brain Power

Ever since the Wii and up to the Kinect, motion control has been the thing.
3D may also be very popular (I mean in video games, it been very popular in movies) this year,
depending on how well the 3DS keeps selling.

What next though?

I was thinking about the Wii 2 today and
Nintendo's promise to bring something new, something never done before (at least, probably, not in video games)
The first thing that came to mind was...the mind.
What if instead of motion control, we had mental or mind control.
Not the kind of mind control that involves brain washing,
Mind control that has you controlling a video game with your mind.

Think of the possibilities!
Now think of the same possabillities but with motion control too, even 3D.
3D as in an image that changes as you move your head and look around up to 360 degrees.
Imagine a game like...Zelda!

You're Link, sitting on top of your horse, holding your bow and arrow.

Motion control- you hold, position, and shoot the bow and arrow
3D- for realistic aiming
Mental control- you control where you want the horse to move

...
virtual reality.

OST of the Week:

SSIV-Hakan's Theme
