"The facts are that Take-Two reached out to [TNT parent company Turner Broadcasting System] to express concern over confusion between the properties and they responded that they had decided to change the title of the show independent of Take-Two’s concerns.”
In legalese this means that they did contact them, most likely did threaten to sue, but Take-Two, in an attempt to save face has chosen to deny the accusations. It's basically the equivalent to saying "We made them an offer they couldn't refuse."
1) Because the Xbox 360 came out in 2005, by the time the new Xbox comes out 8 years will have passed, almost double a normal generation lifecycle.
2) People already know that the new consoles are coming out this coming holiday, why would you spend 200-300 dollars on something you're going to replace in a year?
3) Everyone in their core demographic already has a 360, if you're just now hoping on the 360 bandwagon, it's because you're casual, in which case you're probably going to play it until the PS4 and Xbox 720 ( or w/e the heck it's going to be called) get cheap.
4) Because I got in one little fight and my mom got scared and said "You're moving with your auntie and uncle in Bel-air"
I'd like to see what information this person has that backs up these beliefs and if it stands up to scrutiny.
This is such a played out argument.
I will make it simple for anyone who has doubts about the correlation between violent acts and video games, I'll use Black Ops 2 as an example ( because the opposition sure loves to use it as one)
Call of Duty franchise (World at War - Present) ~ 68.5 million copies sold [avg ~11.5million per game (source http://www.vgchartz.com)
Hypothetically if the shooters of Sandy Hook, Virginia tech and Columbine (although none of these games existed during Columbine :/ ) could conclusively to have been influenced by these games, the ratio of people acting violently to not would be (4: ~11.5 + million)
That means that of the average of ~11.5 million or so people that would have played any of these games, only 4 resulted in a mass shooting.
4:11,500,000 is a statistical anomaly
The only thing that could be concluded is that the people who perpetrated these acts of violence were mentally unstable to begin with.
I would also like to add that the people who are trying to pin these acts on video games have an agenda. If they could have pinned these acts on violent video games without a reasonable doubt they would have, but they can't. These people are political opportunists.
@dotanpelled @Llama345 @SuperDutchy @gatsbythepig @TzarStefan I am certainly not an antisemite, nor am I an arab. Also, "The Jews" is not a nation, it is a people. historically in the bible they are referred to as "A people without a land" Historically throughout history, Christians have been persecuted equally (if not moreso) by many different groups.
Christians were killed and were enslaved starting right away after the new testament. The Roman empire under Nero as well as Constantine (Amongst others) executed innumerable Christians for the amusement of the people.
There was an event called "The Great Persecution" in which it was actually illegal to be Christian up until it was eventually legalized by Constantine in 313.
During the 4th century Christians in other parts of the world were killed for their faith as well.
During the Roman-Persian War, Christians were persecuted by Persians and Jews
During the early Arab Islamic Caliphates Christians were persecuted
During the early medieval period christians were persecuted by the Roman Catholic church
This persecution exists still in many parts of the world, mostly in predominantly Islamic countries where people if different religions are discriminated against.
These are just a few examples, but many other groups of people in history other than blacks or jews have been highly persecuted and discriminated against.
I should also point out that when people like to point out that famous "over 6 million" number people like to throw out about the Holocaust, it should be mentioned that the 6 million in the camps were not just Jews, but cripples, homosexuals, blacks and other ethnic minorities, christians, AS WELL as Jews.
During WWII, the Chinese actually suffered the greatest amount of civilian casualties (according to heavily documented evidence), but people tend to forget about that I guess.
@gatsbythepig @TzarStefan There is not a group of people in the history of the world that has not endured some for of persecution, enslavement or prejudice.
@Shenstar75 don't get me wrong, I fully realize that the drone attacks on innocents in these countries are a terrible and very real occurance...but honestly Call of Duty has nothing to do with that. It's just a videogame. It's just programming code. It's just a visual representation of an idea that they are against.
@Shenstar75 It is true, bad things happen everywhere.
When you talk about cause and affect, while I agree that sometimes people do bad things because other people did bad things to them, but at some point we have to realize that it's just a pissing contest.
People dying in one place does not rationalize the death of others as much as some would like to believe it does. If someone killed someone I cared about, I know that as much as I would like to get back at the person who did it or hurt people who matter to them or people like them, I realize that it will not bring back the person I cared about.
I would like to get back to the main point which is that this article was about Pakistan banning BOPS 2 and Warfighter. lack of tolerance is really the culprit here. I was reading this article about how people in Pakistan were refusing polio vaccinations for themselves and their children because they hate Americans so much. This is just blind hate.
When you hate a culture so much ( the American military is not the same as the American people ) that you literally are harming yourself because of your hatred...all of this intolerance are just symptoms of a greater issue
@Shenstar75 I think you have missed my point entirely. Endorsing freedom does not equate to endorsing America. The concept of freedom has existed long before America. Your pointless comments simply cause a distraction from the actual issue which is the tolerance of the people of these countries. When someone is different then you or believes something that conflicts with your beliefs or insults your belief system, it's not ok to kill them for that. If you believe it is justified to kill someone who believes something opposite to your belief system, you are wrong.
It's also interesting that you claim that the amount of deaths due stoning or similarly barbaric method are close to zero in pakistan, in actuality your figures are pure conjecture and are simply a vehicle to fuel your argument. Google easily brings up lots of information about stoning in pakistan, I recommend utilizing the interwebs before making such blatantly uninformed statements.
I would also like to point out that Activision, which is part of Activision Blizzard (based in California) is a subsidiary of Vivendi, which is a European giant conglomerate ran out of France.
My point has nothing to do with outside influences, which you have felt it necessary to bring into this discussion. I was simply pointing out the method in which they govern themselves. They really have no tolerance for objective forward thinking in a lot of these countries such as Pakistan, Afghanistan, and India. India being the most forward thinking, but moreso because of the larger variety of cultures and religions that exist there.
I guess you have the right to argue, but what you said really had nothing to do with what I was saying. It seemed that really you were just wanting to bash America, which is fine, feel free.
I wish this would be a Mario 64 type game with a large open 3d overworld with paintings and such to jump into to enter the levels. Man that game was so much fun. PLEASE NINTENDO PLEASE.
Maybe we'll get lucky and it will be a huge open environment similar to a zelda game with towns and such with all the different inhabitants, the mushroom kingdom all the villages and such...man that would be amazing...there's still so much that can be done with this franchise. I pray every generation, but it never comes to fruition....I CAN DREAM THOUGH.
