Looking at it from the angle of Colin Farrell...this could either be career suicide or a good move. It really depends and it's a gamble no matter how you look at it. As a fan of the Warcraft universe, I would love to see big names and to see this movie do well, but video game movies have a sordid past and any big name actor will be risking a rather large blemish on their resume if it fails.
If you search "Grand Theft Auto V" at vgchartz.com it lists Xbox One on there...odd since it hasn't even been announced yet. I suspect that the PS4 listing will show up shortly.
Politicians whine about these things every time a violent game comes out. If anything could be proven without a doubt as far as the correlation between violence and video games, then something would be done, but despite decades of studies, no such correlation has been discovered and therefore nothing has been done and nothing will continue to be done.
This is just politicians blowing steam and trying to gain favor within their demographics ( ie everyone that doesn't play these types of games... ) It happens every time a violent game comes out and it will continue to be this way for ever and ever and ever.
I personally am predicting that the next GTA game is going to take place in China (with Vice City taking a close second) anyone who has played thru the campaign in GTA V can probably guess why this is.
I can understand making a game if if makes sense in the setting and is relevant, but to simply make a game with a woman for that sake alone is ridiculous. It has to make sense. I think Rockstar could easily make a GTA or RDR (or even a completely new IP, perhaps ) but it would have to make sense. Rockstar understands this, they have very good story writers and when it makes sense and they're ready, then they will.
I would also add that many past Rockstar games have had many noteworthy supporting female characters. It's not like they don't try, but simply meeting a demand that their audience wants.
Grand Theft Auto doesn't discriminate, but hates all groups equally, which unfortunately is something that Carolyn has apparently forgotten and has CHOSEN to take offense at one aspect of the game while completely ignoring everything else that could be found offensive.
aka "It's only offensive, because it applies to me".
I find it somewhat hypocritical to be bothered by the prostitutes and the disregard for women, but then not once mention the superfluous use of racial slurs and derogatory racial stereotypes...I guess THAT'S okay...
