[QUOTE="Tactis"]true but you have to admit that if you went from a ps2 to an xbox 360 when the 360 launched you basacilly have had no rpgs for about two years(agiane exception of oblivion)and pretty much dominated by fps i think anyone could say that would make the fps seem a little tired.
As to the rpg gener, i am just excited to be able to play any rpg on a next gen console for the first time and as to groundbreaking,Eternal Sonata combat system is different than most jrpgs and should be a nice change of pace from blue dragon and Mass Effect looks like a real epic rpg with deep storyline, awesome graphics, and a nice class system.

If you went from a PS2 to an Xbox 360, than you've still had about a dozen or so RPG releases. Just b/c a new generation has started doesn't mean that the genre hasn't had it's fair share of representation. And it's common sense that one genre is a faster turn-over in terms of development, not to mention requires no localization for the most part.
All that aside, again it doesn't matter if FPS (albeit you listed some TPS) are getting pushed out faster right now on current generation hardware. The handhelds and last generation (which is still active) more than make up for that.
To me if one is "tired" the other is equally guilty in being tired, sure there are some slight tweaks in newness, but the same could be said about some FPS.
yeah i can see your point realistically speaking i don't see how both geners are going to really be very innovative in this generation but developers can be surprising i hope they focus more on story, character depth, plot twists, character interaction,Immerse you in the environment than trying to reinvent the wheel with their combat systems because there isnt a lot that hasnt been done before
[QUOTE="Tactis"][QUOTE="-RPGamer-"][QUOTE="subject117"]I'm all over RPG's. I think the FPS genre is getting tired. Bioshock is probably the first one I'll REALLY like in a long time. Bring on Blue Dragon and Lost Odyssey!-RPGamer-
Just to be fair RPGs aren't exactly cutting the innovative edge. They're getting just as tired. Oddly the two you listed seem to be part of the "getting tired" mold. Sure I'll get them and enjoy them, but outside of LO story (and hopefully plot) they look as cookie cutter as ever.
well see the thing is the fps gener only seems tired to people because across all next-genplatformes there havent been any real rpg titles(i mean there's oblivion, overlord....is that it?) even the Playstation brand which was rpg heaven last year has not come out with an exclusive rpg and will only have one this year(folklore).
meanwhile the fps gener has been off the charts in amount of games that have premiered for this console generation(i mean i am not that much of an fps fan but i still own Lost Planet, Crackdown, Gears of War, Cod2, Cod3 because frankly there isn't much else i finally got overlord which is like rpg-lite.) so when people say its getting tired i think they mean they are tired of the same type of game...
That's typical, the genre is a slow starter even in many of the past generations. Whether the genre hasa lot of face value in this generation or not doesn't make it any less tired. It's not lie all these genres get some clean slate, RPG are still being released whether they fall in this generation or not matters very little.

edit: to make it more clear i agree rpgs in their core haven't really changed much i think we are going to see more games take the mass effect and bioshock root with more hybrid games which should be fun...
Except it's selling about as bad as the original Xbox...Trading_Zoner
did you know the original xbox was at $200at the same point in the 360s lifetime with twice the price that is pretty good...
